Back in the ’60s and ’70s, it was common for deposed Third World despots to slither off to comfortable exile in friendly regimes. There, instead of facing the reckoning due them from their outraged former subjects, they’d whoop it up in a luxurious retirement funded by the ruling regime, while quietly enriching themselves via shady dealings.

They’re still at it.

> [Former New Zealand](https://www.theaustralian.com.au/higher-education/empathetic-leadership-former-new-zealand-pm-jacinda-ardern-joins-sydney-university/news-story/73de15571075faff7f550bfce2183ca3?ref=goodoil.news) prime minister **Jacinda Ardern** will join the University of Sydney in a new academic role in the institution’s school of public health, delivering guest lectures and bringing “empathetic leadership” to campus.
>
> The university announced on Tuesday that Ms Ardern, who also holds a fellowship at Oxford University, will be appointed as “professor of practice” and will start in the role from this month.

What on earth, you may ask, is a “professor of practice”? Pardon me for being a cynic, but it seems very much like an academic nepo-baby: the sort of bogus sinecure made up in order to gift an academic position to someone whose academic qualifications are notably lacking. Normally a professorship is only awarded to PhDs with relevant teaching experience. As readers of the *Australian* pointed out, Ardern’s academic qualifications are a sole bachelor’s degree from the fifth-ranked university in New Zealand.

> “Her work will focus on empathetic leadership, social cohesion and civic trust; further developing new approaches to global and values-based leadership, as well as exploring new ways to address global health challenges centred on equity, inclusion and wellbeing,” the university said in a statement.

“Empathetic leadership”? “Social cohesion”? This is, remember, the woman who giggled to reporters as she bragged about creating a two-tier society where only one class had full civil rights.

Still, with her fatuous wittering of the ‘genocide’ slur against Jews, she’ll no doubt fit right in, in the epicentre of academic antisemitism in Australia.

The University of Sydney is apparently in desperate need of a fresh injection of ‘empathetic leadership.’ One wonders if that includes empathy for the students and staff who have spent the better part of a year trapped in a self-styled revolutionary fever dream. A recent report by SafeWork NSW, obtained through the tedious necessity of freedom of information requests, paints a picture of an institution that has essentially checked out of the business of education and checked into the business of peddling hate.

> [A preliminary investigation](https://australiatimes.com/safework-nsw-report-reveals-antisemitism-concerns-at-sydney-university?ref=goodoil.news) by SafeWork NSW into the campus culture at Sydney University has revealed significant concerns regarding antisemitism affecting Jewish students and staff. The report details incidents where activists allegedly entered lecture halls chanting antisemitic slogans.

We’re not talking about the standard leftist dodge of hiding behind ‘anti-zionism’, the fig-leaf for antisemites who don’t even have the guts to goose-step in public. No, the university’s staff and students don’t even bother to hide their hate: “Jews not allowed” banners were allowed to fly at Ardern’s new workplace.

Such company she chooses to keep.

The report into Sydney University chronicles an atmosphere of fear: the gnawing anxiety experienced by individuals targeted for their heritage. The university, it seems, has mastered the art of performative policy while doing absolutely nothing to stop the actual degradation of campus life.

> [The report found](https://www.australianjewishnews.com/university-of-sydney-failed-to-protect-jews-from-antisemitism/?ref=goodoil.news) Jewish workers and students “experienced antisemitism daily whilst on campus” and that the university’s failures “placed at risk the psychosocial health and safety of Jewish workers and students”.

Ardern’s new colleagues stood by while graffiti artists defaced the tunnels and activists engaged in the tedious, performative thuggery that currently passes for political discourse in our tertiary institutions. Even when the New South Wales Police raised concerns about an encampment that was serving little purpose other than to intimidate and obstruct Jews, the university’s leadership sat by and watched. It took being dragged before the antisemitism royal commission for Vice Chancellor **Mark Scott** to even acknowledge his campus’s glaring Jew hate problem.

Jacinda Ardern is the perfect addition to this menagerie. A former prime minister who built a career on soft-focus press conferences and enforced medical mandates and the slow-motion erosion of civil liberties will feel entirely at home presiding over a faculty that is either too cowardly or too ideologically aligned to maintain basic standards of order and decency. It is a match made in the hollowed-out corridors of the modern academy.

One can only imagine what lessons she will impart: perhaps a masterclass in how to dismantle a society while keeping a straight face for the cameras.
