# An Important New Policy from National

The health sector is going through a workforce crisis.

That means more sick and injured Kiwis are waiting too long for the treatment they desperately need, whether it’s in the ED, to see their GP, or on a growing wait list for necessary surgery.

**That’s why I’ve just announced a new policy to bolster our health workforce, and get it back on track. Here’s a quick summary:**

- A new medical school in Waikato to boost the number of doctors being trained.
- Increased training places at existing medical schools.

**National’s new policy will result in 220 more doctors graduating each year by 2030, compared to just 50 more under Labour’s plan.**

A Waikato medical school should have been started five years ago as the previous National Government planned.

But Labour cancelled it in 2018 and their short-sightedness has led to you waiting longer to be seen.
