# COVID-19 Update: 9 April 2020

We are at

Level 4

- Everyone must now stay home, except those providing essential services.
- Only make physical contact with those that you live with.

### Government COVID-19 Response Briefing

The All of Government COVID-19 National Response will provide an update at 1.00 pm today, 9 April 2020.

**Speakers:**

- Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern
- Dr Ashley Bloomfield, Director-General of Health

### Ministry of Health Update:

- 23 new confirmed, 6 probable cases, 29 total new cases
- 317 people who have recovered
- 1239 total cases
- 14 in hospital, 4 ICU in critical condition
- 3547 is the 7 day rolling average number of tests
- 3990 tests tests yesterday
- 12 clusters. Matamata 64, Bluff 87, Marist 84

### Prime Minister Update:

- Halfway mark, praise from PM for Kiwis for lock down.
- Apparently we are alone in the world to stamp out Covid-19, somehow.
- On track to meet optimist scenarios
- Plan is working, but success does not mean reduction in rules.
- Police enforcement will continue, and in some instance increase
- “We cannot let the selfish actions of a few set us back, and we won’t”
- An extra 4,866 Kiwis on a benefit, and last week that number increased by another 10,000
- Best economic response, is a health response.
- Borders tightened, quarantine required for 14 days for every Kiwi returning.
- Also for anyone else arriving as well.
- Despite only requiring quarantine now still claiming we went hard and early
- A network of up to 18 hotels will be used to implement this approach, of which one to two will be specifically set aside for those under strict quarantine conditions.
- The Ministry of Health is working on a contact tracing app.
- Might be able to get the open source tech for this from Singapore, speaking with Singapore’s Prime Minister this evening
- Claims we have high level of testing despite less than 1% of population having been tested
- Will not be moving out of Level 4 early. If we move to early, we will go backwards
- Businesses being asked to prepare now for any alert level
