We are at

Level 4

of New Zealand’s four-level COVID-19 alert system. It is likely Level 4 measures will stay in place for a number of weeks. [More information on alert levels.](https://covid19.govt.nz/government-actions/covid-19-alert-level/?ref=goodoil.news)

- Everyone must now stay home, except those providing essential services.
- Only make physical contact with those that you live with.

### Government COVID-19 Response Briefing

### Ministry of Health Update:

- **52** new and **30** probable cases, **82** total new
- **950** total cases
- **10** in hospital, 1 in ICU
- **127** people have “recovered”.
- 2264 rolling seven day average for testing, **3631** tests completed yesterday
- **33,116** total tests
- Capacity to do 6,000 tests per day
- 100,000 nasal and throat swabs in stocks, and 37,000 full test kits
- Less than half of all cases, 47% are strongly linked with travel. First time it is less than 50%. Now more than 50% are community spread.
- 10 clusters, still growing
- No changes to recovery definition. New Zealand will STILL NOT test for negative results before declaring someone as “recovered”. NZ is alone in the world for this definition.
- Not revising advice regarding masks. Ignoring US CDC advice overnight for Americans to wear masks.
- Say they are waiting to see what the advice says from CDC. To help them, here it is: [https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cloth-face-cover.html](https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cloth-face-cover.html?ref=goodoil.news)
- Discounting situation in USA, saying NZ is better off than US. This is pretty lackadaisical advice from Bloomfield.
- Continuing government talking points that we went hard and early.
- Talking about flattening off of cases, but they’ve only just expanding criteria for testing. Until recently they’ve only been testing travel-related cases. Big assumptions being made here.
- Government spin lines now delivered directly by civil servants

---

Yesterday’s details.

- 49 new and 22 probable cases, 71 total new
- 868 total cases
- 2000 tests per day
- 103 people have recovered.
