# COVID-19 Update: 7 April 2020

We are at

Level 4

- Everyone must now stay home, except those providing essential services.
- Only make physical contact with those that you live with.

### Government COVID-19 Response Briefing

The All of Government COVID-19 National Response will provide an update at 1.00 pm today.

Speakers:

- Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern
- Dr Ashley Bloomfield, Director-General of Health

### Ministry of Health Update:

- 32 new confirmed, 22 probable cases, **54 total new cases**
- 241 people who have recovered
- **1160 total cases**
- 12 in hospital, **4 ICU in critical condition**
- 3063 is the 7 day rolling average number of tests
- **2908 tests yesterday**
- 42,826 tests completed so far
- Test capacity is now 44,000 tests in stock
- 50,000 nasal swabs in stock
- Community transmission is 2%
- WHO does not recommend use of medical masks for general population, except those who are sick and could pass on to others.

### Prime Minister Update:

- Combined press conferences now
- Speaking about David Clark.
- She would have sacked the minister under normal circumstances.
- Has been demoted to the bottom of cabinet rankings so **Health is now the least important portfolio.**
- Stripped of Associate Finance Minister role
- No effect on his salary.
- PM talking quarantine at the border now…Why hasn’t there been a quarantine weeks ago? What happened to hard and early?
- When asked about people traveling to holiday homes, Ardern said we need to send a clear message going into Easter. The same rules apply, that includes staying local. Presumably Simon Bridges traveling 500km back to Tauranga is fine.
- 291 breaches of the health act, 16 people have been prosecuted, 263 warnings and 10 youth referrals.
- Re: the patient at an Invercargill hospital who was admitted and underwent surgery knowing they had covid-19\. Ardern said “if you have Covid symptoms, if you do not tell health professionals even before you have contact with them … you are putting their lives at risk”. She said we “cannot tolerate that”.
