The far left are turning once again to violence and murder and the media are – once again – doing everything they can to cover it up. The latest case in point is the killing of Samoan fashion designer **Arthur “Afa” Ah Loo**, at last weekend’s ‘No Kings’ anti-Trump protests.

To give the *NZ Herald* some credit, they’re focussing on the local angle and rightly promoting a Gofundme for the innocent victim of radical leftist violence. That’s as it should be. But when they – as briefly as they can get away with – describe the circumstances of the shooting, their reporting dissolves into a confusing mess.

Because they will do everything they can to obscure the facts when it comes to left-wing violence.

> [Yesterday the Salt Lake City Police Department](https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/death-of-samoan-fashion-designer-arthur-afa-ah-loo-at-protest-against-trump-gofundme-raises-more-than-400k/YXOK3MURMFDYLKMN6OXLP2OPZA/?ref=goodoil.news) said detectives believe Ah Loo was an innocent bystander. After the shooting **Arturo Gamboa**, 24, was arrested and booked into jail on a charge of murder.
>
> Detectives allege he raised an AR-15-style rifle and ran toward the crowd, prompting a person to fire three rounds, one of which tragically struck Ah Loo.

If you’re wondering why Gamboa is charged with murder when *someone else* fired the shots – Gamboa did not in fact fire a single shot – you’re not alone.

The *NZ Herald* is also muddying the waters: “Detectives allege he raised an AR-15-style rifle and ran toward the crowd.” In fact, *detectives* are alleging no such thing. The problem is, at best, lazy journalism: *Ferald* reporters reading an X post and not following the link to the actual statement.

> [“Detectives allege ](https://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/prominent-samoan-fashion-designer-shot-and-killed-at-protest-in-utah/BZRIARMNTVFH5LTFRY5HTVCVVY/?ref=goodoil.news)he raised an AR-15-style rifle and ran toward the crowd, prompting a person to fire three rounds, one of which tragically struck Mr Ah Loo,” the Salt Lake City Police Department said.

This is quoting from an [X post](https://x.com/slcpd/status/1934327670889918878?ref=goodoil.news). But that post contains a link to the official statement, which is very different:

> [**Witnesses reported** Gamboa](https://police.slc.gov/2025/06/15/slcpd-provides-update-on-downtown-shooting-investigation-2/?ref=goodoil.news) instead lifted the rifle and began running toward the crowd gathered on State Street, holding the weapon in a firing position.

(Emphasis added.)

Those are two distinctly different statements.

To clear up the confusion, here’s the relevant details from the *actual* police statement:

> Around 8 pm, officers and detectives – including members of SLCPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) and Gang Unit – were flagged down near 102 South 200 East.
>
> There, they found a man crouching among a group of people with a gunshot wound.
>
> That man is identified as 24-year-old Arturo Gamboa, who was dressed in all black clothing and wearing a black mask.
>
> As officers approached, community members pointed out a nearby firearm, which was described as an AR-15-style rifle.
>
> Officers also located a gas mask, black clothing, and a backpack in close proximity. The items were collected and processed by the SLCPD Crime Lab.
>
> Paramedics took Gamboa to the hospital. Detectives later booked Gamboa into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on a charge of murder.
>
> Officers also detained two men who were wearing high-visibility neon green vests and carrying handguns.
>
> These men were apparently part of the event’s peacekeeping team.
>
> During interviews, detectives learned the two peacekeepers saw Gamboa move away from the crowd and move into a secluded area behind a wall – behavior they found suspicious.
>
> One of the peacekeepers told detectives he saw Gamboa pull out an AR-15-style rifle from a backpack and begin manipulating it.
>
> The peacekeepers drew their firearms and ordered Gamboa to drop the weapon.
>
> Witnesses reported Gamboa instead lifted the rifle and began running toward the crowd gathered on State Street, holding the weapon in a firing position.
>
> In response, one of the peacekeepers fired three rounds.

The so-called ‘peacekeeping team’ were, in fact, members of a far-left radical anti-Trump group calling itself the ‘50501 Movement’. Founded by a male transsexual, who describes himself as “resist\[ing\]” a “fascist system”.

### Who is Arturo Gamboa?

Arturo Gamboa. The Good Oil.

So, were they merely defending protesters against a potentially violent far-right shooter? Here’s what the MSM don’t want you to know:

Gamboa is himself a far-left radical, who is also allied with the 50501 Movement that organised the protest. Social media photos show Gamboa wearing a beret from ‘Utah Against Police Brutality’, which is closely affiliated with the Party for Socialism and Liberation, which is working closely with 50501\. Gamboa also shared multiple X posts supporting Antifa and BLM.

So: far-left radical carries a rifle at a far-left protest, gets shot by multiple other far-left radicals, who also murder an innocent bystander. The far-left radical who didn’t fire a single shot is charged with murder. The far-left radicals who shot and killed a man are not charged with anything to date.

No wonder the media are making their ‘reporting’ as confusing as possible.
