From PM **Anthony Albanese** issuing a directive to his minions to play the policies, not the woman, Labor have gone into full attack mode. Immediately following the stunning One Nation win in Western Australia, Labor immediately went into uninhibited ‘basket of deplorables’ mode, smearing the party and its supporters as ‘dangerous’ and ‘a threat’. The only thing they haven’t done yet is scream ‘Nazi! Fascist!’ But give them time. This begs the question: just how far will they go? **Pauline Hanson** has accused the PM of what amounts to stochastic terrorism: all but openly inciting violence against her, her party and her voters. The violence had already started, with a One Nation volunteer bashed at Brisbane’s Ekka agricultural show – on the same day that ‘students’, led by the nose by violent far-leftists Socialist Alternative, were calling to ‘kill Hanson’. But, as the coalition knew in the ’90s, there’s more than one way to skin a cat – or kill off a political threat. Using an astroturfing gambit, the then coalition government conspired to have Hanson jailed on trumped-up charges that were later thrown out, with Hanson freed and a full bench of the court striking out all convictions. What similarly dirty tricks might Labor pull? Writing at the *Noticer*, **Zac Brandon** argues that it’s not beyond the bounds of possibility that the government could conspire to have One Nation banned as a ‘hate group’. > [Before you dismiss](https://www.noticer.news/labor-one-nation-hate-group/?ref=goodoil.news) the headline, consider the extremist rhetoric being spouted by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the Labor Party over the past couple of days \[…\] > > Albanese told the Queensland State Labor Conference: “Across the world hard-right populists are on the march. Peddling politics that is dangerous, divisive, and downright dishonest. We simply must defeat them. We owe it to history. We owe it to the nation. And we will defeat them.” That reads like a cheap ripoff of Churchill’s stirring speech to the British nation, except that Churchill was confronting *actual* Nazis, not merely centre-right political opponents he wanted to smear. Albo’s minion Attorney-General **Michelle Rowland**, “a censorious pantsuited harpie who should never have been let near the levers of power”, had no such qualms. > I think some of One Nation’s elements, particularly where they have been recruiting or otherwise giving a platform to extremist views, including neo-Nazi views, that is dangerous. Then, without an iota of self-awareness, she screeched this: > I think it is also dangerous, at a time when social cohesion has never been more important, to trade on the politics of division. I also think it’s dangerous when people who purport to be leaders in our community deliberately go out with inflammatory language that seeks to divide us. You mean, deliberately inflammatory language like ‘Nazi’, ‘extremist’, ‘dangerous’? That sort of deliberately inflammatory division? Hanson’s reply was that “words have consequences” and “that is how political violence is incited”. She is not wrong about the incitement. She may be looking at the wrong weapon. Labor already has a tool Menzies would have killed for. In 1950 **Robert Menzies** passed the Communist Party Dissolution Act, aimed at an organisation that actually answered to Moscow and ran unions. The High Court struck it down. Menzies then had to ask the Australian people, in a 1951 referendum, for the power to ban communists. They said no: narrowly, but they said no. He did not have a regulation he could sign into existence after a press conference. He did not have ‘hate group’ laws. He had to go through parliament, the court and then the voters. Labor does now, though. The Combatting Antisemitism, Hate and Extremism package of January 2026 lets the government list an organisation as a prohibited hate group if a minister is satisfied it has engaged in, planned, or even ‘advocated’ a vaguely defined “hate crime”: including conduct that was totally legal when it happened. No criminal convictions are required. A ban need only be “reasonably necessary to protect the Australian community… against social, psychological, physical or economic harm”. And that means… well, whatever the authoritarians in power want it to mean. > Now consider that the White Australia Party was banned for, among other things, “consistently promoting racist and hateful propaganda”, and that the government defended the ban by saying it would “reduce \[its\] overall impact and influence in Australian society”. > > The government, therefore, could easily decide that One Nation is so dangerous that it needs to be banned to protect vulnerable minority groups from social or psychological harm, and decide that its alleged platforming of neo-Nazi views, and Pauline Hanson’s past comments about Asians and Muslims, constitute hate crimes. The Aussies of the 1950s were a wiser bunch that the censorious nannies running the joint today. They understood that the proper way to defeat a dangerous group – and the CPA was truly dangerous: a bunch of Stalinists who’ve openly admitted that they’d have staged their own show-trials and executions, had they got their claws on the levers of power – was to trust the demos and let the ballot box decide. The last thing today’s uniparty want is to have to sully their born-to-rule entitlement with anything as grubby as democracy. Is a ban on One Nation likely tomorrow morning or next week? Almost certainly not. Is it unthinkable, from a government that has already watched Hanson go to jail on a stitch-up, that now treats her voters as a pathology and that built a listing machine which civil libertarians – and even some Labor MPs – warned could be turned on any party? No. Even unused, the law does Labor’s work. It chills One Nation out of self-preservation and leaves the Greens untouched on Labor’s left flank as the respectable radicals who still deliver preferences. Menzies had to persuade a nation that communists were an existential fifth column. Albanese need only decide that social cohesion is feeling poorly. They have not screamed ‘Nazi’ at the whole party.
