[A tough piece](https://urikurlianchik.substack.com/p/her-life-was-a-waste-her-death-was) by one Uri Kurlianchik about a fellow Jew:

> Few people were greater enemies to peace and greater friends to terror than this arrogant betrayer.
>
> Like Joseph Heller wrote, “the enemy is anybody who’s going to get you killed, no matter which side he is on.”
>
> Vivian Silver was my enemy.
>
> I do not cry for enemies.

For those who don’t know, Vivian Silver was a socialist Jew who lived on one of the classic kibbutzim in Southern Israel. These were places established a hundred years ago or more by Jews who’d read Marx [and were convinced that they knew where his theory ended:](https://grokipedia.com/page/Kibbutz?ref=goodoil.news)

> A kibbutz is a voluntary [collective](https://grokipedia.com/page/Collective?ref=goodoil.news) settlement in Israel, structured around **communal ownership of** [**means of production**](https://grokipedia.com/page/Means%5Fof%5Fproduction?ref=goodoil.news)**, egalitarian distribution of goods and services, and cooperative labor among members**, originally conceived as an agricultural enterprise to foster Jewish self-reliance within the Zionist pioneer movement. The movement originated in the early 20th century, with the first kibbutz, Degania, founded in 1910 as an experiment in practical [socialism](https://grokipedia.com/page/Socialism?ref=goodoil.news) adapted to frontier conditions in Ottoman Palestine.

[Vivian Silver](https://grokipedia.com/page/Vivian%5FSilver?ref=goodoil.news) believed in this vision so strongly that, after being born and raised in Canada as a secular Jew (which is to say, no God of any Testament), she didn’t just move to Israel but to one of these kibbutzim. As it happens it was Kibbutz Be’eri where she settled, just a few kilometres from the border with Gaza.

> Silver co-founded organizations such as Women Wage Peace, an interfaith movement advocating diplomatic resolutions to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the Arab-Jewish Center for Empowerment, Cooperation, and Negev Development (AJEEC-NISPED), which promoted shared society projects between Jewish and Arab communities. Earlier in her career, she served as CEO of the Negev Institute for Peace and Development Strategies and established initiatives for gender equality in kibbutz movements, including a department for promoting women’s roles in United Kibbutz.

Which all sounds warm and cuddly, but which apparently meant nothing to one group of people that these efforts were directed at, the Gazans themselves.

> Vivian Silver was a Canadian-Israeli who dedicated her life to help Gaza and vilify Israel. She organized programs to help Gazan workers in Israel, drove them to Israeli hospitals, joined the anti-Israeli organization B’tselem and founded “Women Wage Peace.” As part of her work, she lead tours of the Israeli-Gaza border to raise awareness about the struggle of Gaza’s residents.
>
> Finally, with her kind aid, their struggle was successful!
>
> On October 7, those residents broke through the border and came to her home. They didn’t kidnap her. They just murdered her. It took a month to identify what remained of her.
