Year 12 **student and media contact** for School Strike for Climate Wellington, [Izzy Cook, spoke to *RNZ*’s “Morning Report”](https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/morningreport/audio/2018859909/wellington-student-on-why-she-s-taking-part-in-climate-strike?ref=goodoil.news) on Friday.

*Newstalk ZB*’s Heather du Plessis-Allan rang Miss Cook for an interview on Friday evening.

By Sunday evening Izzy’s mother, Rose Cook, had composed a reply and [the *Spinoff* printed it](https://thespinoff.co.nz/media/25-09-2022/heather-du-plessis-allan-should-be-ashamed-of-how-she-bullied-my-daughter?ref=goodoil.news).

Ms Cook seems personally affronted and a bit panicked (after all: Climate Change!!) Perhaps she’s insulted because someone laughed at her daughter? She accuses the media of picking on “our youth, whose future is most at stake”. And claims her daughter was **bullied** (there is no evidence of that).

She says Miss Cook has published press releases and personally dealt with the [council and Fulton Hogan](https://www.stuff.co.nz/environment/climate-news/129826940/school-climate-strikers-we-shouldnt-have-to-pay-5000-to-protest-safely?ref=goodoil.news), taking strategic and difficult decisions to make the strike happen. Remember: Miss Cook **is the media contact for the group**.

Ms Cook says, “Parents will understand that watching your teenage child drive themselves this hard is distressing.” And, “frankly \[Izzy\] is scared for her future”.

“Our young people are genuinely terrified about the world they are inheriting.”

Ms Cook tries “to help by **proofreading and preparing her for media interviews**”.

**One has to wonder whose fight this actually is?** Why is Miss Cook SO terrified for her future and driving herself this hard?

For a 16-year-old teen, it’s one thing to be interviewed and fluff it with one radio station, but quite another to have Mummy go ballistic in national media and make sure **everyone knows** you fluffed it. That’s cringe.
