Has National Become the Party of the WETS?

Once upon a time, the National Party was home to backbone conservatives, practical centrists, business builders and people who believed in personal responsibility and national pride.

Not any more.

Today, National looks increasingly like the party of the *WETS* — Weak, Evasive, Timid and Squishy.

Afraid to take a stand.  
Afraid to offend.  
Afraid of headlines.  
Afraid of its own history.
