- Description: Modern migrants didn’t ‘build Australia’: white settlers did.

When the odious **Barack Obama** smirked that Muslims “\[built\] the very fabric of our nation”, the obvious response is: When? How? How many Muslims were on the *Mayflower*? Where were the Muslims in Independence Hall in 1776? At Gettysburg? Iwo Jima?

Australians are entitled to ask the same sort of questions when we are finger-wagged that ‘migrants built Australia’. The most important question being: what kind of migrants? But we’re not allowed to ask that question, because we know the answer: they were overwhelmingly British. Even in the great post-war migration period, when they weren’t British, the migrants were almost entirely European. Even by the 1970s, Australia’s non-British/European population barely mustered more than a couple of per cent.

The country had long been built, by then. By people who have not just been forgotten, per Menzies’ famous speech, but deliberately airbrushed out of the national picture, by the elites who endlessly prate about Multiculturalism and the supposed lack of an Australian identity. The forgotten and erased people and their descendants don’t need to ask what the Australian identity is, because they already just know. And they’re fed up with being fed lies to the contrary.

Consider the recent, nauseating output from the ABC, which took it upon itself to rewrite the story of North Queensland’s cane fields. They framed these migrant workers as the primary architects of our prosperity. Their labour was indeed industrious, but to suggest they erected the nation from nothing is to engage in a dishonest historiographical erasure.

> [Those households,](https://www.spectator.com.au/2026/09/theyre-not-menzies-forgotten-people-theyre-one-nations-fed-up-people/?ref=goodoil.news) and many like them, carved a working country out of land that had offered the First and Second Fleets almost nothing. Twentieth-century migrants did not inherit a wilderness. They inherited a prosperity someone else had already sweated into being. That is why they came.

Unlike today’s Third World grifters, the post-war migrants didn’t come with their hands out, they came with their sleeves rolled up, ready to earn their way in the nation that had been built over the previous 150 years.

But the modern elite establishment treat the past as a *tabula rasa*, a shameful void only redeemed when their preferred demographic categories arrived to populate it. It’s a form of cultural vandalism that prioritises political fashion over historical reality.

> The habit of scoring the past by the politics of the present is what the cane-farm story was doing. A true episode of migrant hard yakka is enlisted to imply that the country before them was empty, shameful, or waiting to be invented. The work is not in doubt. The rewrite of who came first is.

We are living in an era of intellectual collapse, where even the most sensible, centrist observations are categorised as dangerous extremism. One finds that the mainstream views held by the likes of **James Allan** are suddenly deemed ‘far-right’, which would, by the same debased standard, render **John F Kennedy** a ‘Nazi’. It is a farce and the electorate is all-too aware.

Menzies’ ‘forgotten people’, that stout, middle-class engine room of our industry, are currently being bled dry by the bloated, parasitic regime of the Albanese government and its Third World dependents. We have moved from a society of producers to one defined by an entitlement class: a vast network of subsidised NGOs and public-sector dependents who view the taxpayer’s wallet as their own.

The cost of this grand charade is borne by the ordinary citizen, who is squeezed for every cent to fund the very bureaucracy that looks down upon them, and the lamprey-like migrant class who votes for the bureaucracy, and the handouts, to persist. Political figures like **Barnaby Joyce** occasionally gesture toward the truth, though their delivery often lacks the necessary finesse. Yet, perhaps the polish is the problem. The public has grown allergic to the sanitised, focus-grouped drivel emitted by the coalition and they are looking elsewhere.

The establishment may continue to spin its fractured, grievance-driven narratives, but the populace is waking up. The drift toward One Nation is not merely a protest: it is a desperate attempt by a fed-up people to reclaim their own history, and their country with it. They are sick of being airbrushed out of two centuries of achievement. They are sick of government being treated as a business model for the professional activist class and a milch cow for the detritus of Islam and the Third World.

The majors treat these citizens as a nuisance to be managed – preferably summarily silenced. But they fundamentally lack the philosophical depth to understand that these are not merely ‘forgotten’ people any more. They are the people who have remembered exactly who they are, and they are tired of being told that their legacy, like their taxes, belongs to somebody else.
