Their clout is shown by not just ever-rising poll numbers, but the fact that both major parties are desperately dancing to their tune. On immigration, easily the most toxic issue for Australian voters, for all their pious blatherskite, both parties are trying to fool someone, anyone, that they’re doing something meaningful about it. Here’s the thing about working holiday makers: they come, they have a holiday, they work hard in vital industries, *then they go home again*. They don’t park there arses here forever, claim welfare, and import the whole village from back home in Shitholistan to come and do the same. Labor’s policy is the most idiotic non-solution, to one of the worst policy cancers inflicted on this nation in a century, imaginable. It’s not just Labor dancing clumsily to One Nation’s virtuoso tune. The coalition, having reduced itself to minor party status and solidly alienated nearly its entire former voter base by aping Labor’s dunderheaded policy nostrums on everything from mass immigration to ‘Net Zero’, is also pretending to copy One Nation’s dance moves. > [A coalition government](https://www.theaustralian.com.au/nation/politics/coalition-unveils-plan-to-end-chris-bowens-green-revolution-at-the-australians-energy-nation-summit/news-story/b68a281e5acff8c5f012688ab00896fa?ref=goodoil.news) would dismantle Labor’s renewables revolution, vowing to abolish key planks including the safeguard mechanism, new vehicle efficiency standards and offshore wind zones, while attempting to lift the national moratorium on nuclear-power generation. > > Reigniting the climate wars and putting energy policy at the centre of the next federal election, the coalition has set out eight priorities in its Scrap Net Zero (Cheaper Energy) Act that it would introduce within 30 days of winning power. They’re not kidding anybody. Nobody takes them seriously any more or believes that their supposed political Road to Damascus moment will last a nanosecond beyond the election campaign. That is, if they don’t chicken out and drop it the instant an election is called. > “None of this means Australia should not play its part when it comes to emissions reduction or investing in new technologies,” \[opposition energy and emissions-reduction spokesman **Dan Tehan**\] said. And there’s the quiet bit accidentally getting said out loud. Behind all their tough-guy posturing, the coalition remains the same soggy, blue-green lettuce leaves, weakly bowing to the winds blowing from the Climate Lobby. > Commonwealth funding to the Australian Renewable Energy Agency and Clean Energy Finance Corporation would be tied to a renewable energy code of conduct, in a bid to improve the social licence of projects, while funding to the states would be conditional on them prioritising affordability and reliability. In other words, they’ll pretend to listen to rural communities – and go right ahead and give the green light for the bulldozers to start rolling anyway. As for “affordability”, Australians will treat that with the same sceptical contempt as Albanese’s 200-times-repeated promise to lower household power bills.
