What are we really? An advanced civilisation? Look at us. We have been reduced to trivial entertainments and the consumption of junk food. Books, music and films are printed by a machine that churns out best-sellers, pop hits and ‘blockbusters’; all with the same plot, beat and theme; all rehashed, renamed and released with a blaze of fanfare as a new thing, again and again and again. Healthcare, infrastructure and the education system are in a state of decay. Privatisation has reduced everything to dividends for foreign investors who do not feel obliged to pay for maintenance of the things in our country that they own but do not use.

*Television homogenised us several decades ago, gradually destroying any individuality.* Best sellers, musical hits, films of the year, health, education, what you wear (latest fashion), where you go (most popular destination), the best car to buy (usually the one least likely to be stolen), polls, ratings and reviews all now guide you to your own little postcode slot in the world. If you haven’t read the book, heard the tune, watched the movie, been to the school, owned the car, holidayed there and wear the gear here; if you do not conform to the narrative, if you refuse to be homogenised, you will be erased from social media and soon, when the technology becomes widely available, from society.

No great works of art or thought are being produced anywhere. Craftsmanship has almost vanished. Tourists travel from country to country, from this monument to that monument, from art works and architectural wonders of the ancient world to the furthest reaches of the wild, always looking for originality, the untouched, the unusual, or for that which is native only to that small area, yet they are less and less able to find it.

Everything is cheap and ugly. Profit rules all. The people *en masse* are dis-spirited and plod from one amusement to another, contented with none. Even the sports people, the entertainers and the artistes are tired. They’ve got nothing left to work with. The fabricators or influencers of the internet are getting more and more lascivious and lubricious in their attempts to deliver the goods. Everyone is on the take. Every man, woman and child has a price, particularly as spare parts. Nothing is sacred except money which only buys that which no longer satisfies. Greed and corruption have drained the wealth of the country. It has been sucked dry from within by traitors and idiots in positions of power they are not – by any criteria – equal to.

We will get war eventually. Our isolation won’t protect us. War is spreading through Europe like a poisonous fungus. It will reach the Pacific. This is good. It will bury a lot of high-level criminality. The print media will produce ‘The Narrative’ and, as we can no longer discern between truth and lies or think for ourselves, we will obey that narrative. Our side has already been chosen for us. We shall go to war because ‘the narrative’ says we must ‘do our bit for freedom and democracy’ and because we are bored and numb with the sameness of things; a population raging for escape from our own nihilism. We will fly flags and march and unleash our savagery on people we have never met before. The money will flow. Heroes will be made. Medals will be worn. Songs will be sung and we will be satiated for two generations. Then it will all begin again.
