As I’ve reminded *Good Oil* readers many times, ‘fake news’ doesn’t just mean outright lies. In fact, the most common kind of fake news is misleading content: false connection (‘when headlines, visuals or captions don’t support the content’) and false context (‘when genuine content is shared with false contextual information’). Australia’s ~~taxpayer-funded Marxist propaganda outlet~~ ‘national broadcaster’ is the apex legacy media predator of such fake news.

Take, for instance, how it framed a furore over a woke Tasmanian primary school scrubbing Christmas from its ‘Christmas’ event.

> [Tasmanian Premier](https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10-15/tas-premier-calls-on-school-to-reinstate-christmas-naming/107268614?ref=goodoil.news) **Jeremy Rockliff** criticised after social post on ‘Christmas’ event causes school pile-on
>
> Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff is being urged to apologise after one of his social media posts about a public school renaming a Christmas event caused an online stir.

“Criticised” by *whom*, exactly? “Urged to apologise” by whom?

As it happens, deep in the article, the ABC admits that:

> Many of the comments on the Facebook post were supportive of the premier’s statement.

It’s only buried deep near the end of the article that the ABC comes clean:

> Australian Education Union Tasmanian state manager **Brian Wightman** told 936 ABC Hobart he was appalled by the premier’s actions.

It might also have behoved the ABC to mention that Wightman is a senior Labor Party politician and ex-MP and minister, as well.

So, what really happened?

Over at Trevallyn Primary School in Launceston, the local education apparatus decided that the traditional celebration known as ‘Christmas on the Hill’ had simply become too dreadfully traditional for its own good. It was duly rebadged as ‘Holiday on the Hill’: or, in the school newsletter’s breathless marketing prose, an ‘End of Year Extravaganza!’ All in a sanctimonious effort to serve a supposedly burgeoning tapestry of multicultural needs.

Traditional carols were promptly chucked into the paedagogical skip in favour of disposable radio pap, while the humble Secret Santa was subjected to an ideological scrub and rechristened ‘Holiday Gifting’.

Naturally, the bureaucratic machine had an excuse ready to go:

> [Trevallyn Primary School](https://pulsetasmania.com.au/news/launceston-school-ditches-christmas-celebration-for-a-more-culturally-appropriate-event/?ref=goodoil.news) has renamed its annual end of year Christmas event to ‘Holiday on the Hill’ in an effort to showcase the “strong sense of community” among students “from a range of cultural and religious backgrounds”.

This brings any sensible person to an obvious question: just what exotic multitude are these paedagogical evangelists actually representing?

Let us consult reality. Trevallyn is a picturesque, leafy, affluent enclave of Launceston that is blindingly, overwhelmingly white. Census figures show that nearly 90 per cent of its population is Australian-born or Anglo-British migrants. A mere two per cent hail from India or Nepal and just 1.5 per cent trace their heritage to China. Leaving aside the fashionably God-less majority, the largest recorded religious group remains Christian.

So who, pray tell, is this delicate minority clamouring to have “Silent Night” suppressed?

The answer is obvious. What we are really seeing is a clique of affluent, university-educated, white-collar professionals – whose closest encounter with a “range of cultural and religious backgrounds” involves a sub-continental Uber Eats driver dropping off a butter chicken from the Morty’s food court – publicly circle-jerking their self-appointed ‘virtue’ at the expense of our own civilisational heritage.

When normal, decent parents dared to politely suggest that inclusion ought not mean the wholesale liquidation of Australian customs, the acting principal dismissed them with the usual therapeutic cant.

Fortunately, Premier Jeremy Rockliff stepped in and for once applied a firm dose of common sense, writing to the department head to lay down the law:

> We recognise some students and families have other traditions, however that is not a reason to abandon our own traditions. We expect our schools to acknowledge and celebrate Christmas, as they have always done.

The sheer, staggering unilateralism of modern progressivism is laid bare by such squabbles. Ask yourself this: would the enlightened administrators of Trevallyn ever dare walk into a Western Sydney primary school and rebrand Ramadan as ‘Annual Dieting Month’? Would they strip Diwali of its heritage to turn it into an inclusive, sanitised ‘Autumn Glow Fiesta’?

Of course they wouldn’t. The woke establishment treats every foreign tradition with trembling, barefoot reverence, whilst treating the foundational faith and traditions of Western civilization as an embarrassing stain that must be scrubbed out of sight.

Ordinary Aussies are thoroughly sick to death of watching educational bureaucrats trample heritage to satisfy their own neurotic posturing. Christmas is not an offence to be managed by middle management. It is our tradition and it is here to stay.
