There are so many things wrong with this argument that it’s hard to know where to start. For instance: why not invest in training local talent, instead of opting for Fiverr with added population pressure? Or: how does a putative ‘need’ for ‘skilled’ migrants justify flooding the country with millions of foreigners? But the biggest problem with the ‘skilled migrants’ claim is that it’s an out-and-out lie. The first problem is that the ‘skilled migration’ category makes up just 12 per cent of migrants. Of *those*, about half are actually ‘skilled’. The rest are ‘chain migrants’: family members and dependents. As for the tiny, tiny amount of *actually* ‘skilled’ migrants, what are they ‘skilled’ in? Construction? IT? Or dog walking? That is, after all, one of the classifications of ‘skilled migrants’. So is hairdressing, and massage (guess those Happy Ending places have to find staff somewhere). But the top occupation for ‘skilled’ migrants is… chefs, which, I suppose, might be ‘important’ to a chattering elite just desperate for some chi-chi new ethnic cafe in their ultra-white inner-city suburb. To the rest of us, it just looks like proof positive that mass immigration is a complete scam. One would be forgiven for assuming that a nation boasting vast mineral wealth, advanced engineering potential and a desperate housing sector might look abroad for master builders, nuclear physicists or structural architects to rebuild its vanished industrial powerhouses. But no. According to the bean-counters at the Department of Home Affairs, our most glaring national deficiency is an inability to whip up a butter chicken or froth a skinny soy latte without a low-IQ Third Worlder’s help. Recent figures laid bare by independent commentators have exposed the staggering scale of this administrative farce. > [According to Department](https://www.noticer.news/chefs-top-skilled-migrant-occupations/?ref=goodoil.news) of Home Affairs data, chefs made up 9.3 per cent of primary applicants who were granted Skills in Demand Visas in the year to June 30, 2025, and 9.5 per cent of those accepted in the six months to December 31. It turns out that roughly 10,000 precious visa slots have been generously handed out to cooks, chefs and café managers. One naturally wonders how the commonwealth survived for centuries without importing an army of culinary artists whose primary qualification often amounts to a basic vocational certificate and a willingness to pay extortionate migration agency fees. As independent investigator **Drew Pavlou** rightly observed on social media: > [About 10,000 places](https://x.com/DrewPavlou/status/2102230765404856660?ref=goodoil.news) granted to people working as cooks, chefs or restaurant managers: 180 per cent increase for chefs, 130 per cent increase for cooks, 80 per cent increase for restaurant managers. Then, once accepted, they are allowed to bring family and dependents. These are not Michelin-starred chefs. These are people doing TAFE courses in food production as a back door way to get citizenship. A backdoor indeed. The public response has been a mixture of weary cynicism and outright fury. Generations of Australians are told they must endure skyrocketing rents, gridlocked traffic and decaying public services because our glorious leaders are laser-focused on importing ‘essential skills’. Yet, when the curtain is pulled back, the great machinery of the Australian nation-state appears to be functioning principally as an employment agency for overseas hospitality workers and their extended clans. Worse still, the deception goes far deeper than mere culinary credentials. A rigorous recent analysis by the Institute of Public Affairs has confirmed what everyday citizens have muttered across suburban kitchen tables for over a decade: the entire permanent migration framework is little more than a demographic pyramid scheme. Dr **Kevin You**, senior fellow at the IPA, did not mince words when evaluating the empirical reality behind the government’s grand slogans: > [The federal government’s](https://www.noticer.news/most-skilled-migrant-visas-go-to-unskilled/?ref=goodoil.news) misleadingly named Skilled Migration Program is just a visa approvals target that clearly prioritises chain migration over skilled migration. The government’s mass migration program has inflicted serious economic and social harm on mainstream Australians, all while telling them it’s to help the economy. Indeed, the data reveals that, over the five years leading up to June 2025, more than 307,000 chain migration visas were rubber-stamped under the banner of the ‘skilled stream’. Less than half of the permanent arrivals in 2025 actually met the department’s nominal skills criteria. The rest? The entire village of unskilled dependents trailing in the wake of primary applicants, further straining an already buckling infrastructure. When former Treasury Secretary **Martin Parkinson** conceded earlier this year that half of all permanent migrants are working well below their actual skill levels, and academic studies show a paltry 12 per cent of visas going to offshore skilled primary applicants (half of whom are in fact chain migrants), the mask slipped entirely. We are treated to the surreal spectacle of politicians and corporate lobbyists lecturing the populace about productivity while orchestrating a population influx that depresses wages, inflates property bubbles and treats national sovereignty as an administrative inconvenience. If this is what the chattering class calls nation-building, one shudders to think what constitutes national suicide.
