# Sweden Proves `Em Wrong Again

As readers and [subscribers](https://thebfd.co.nz/subscription-plans/?ref=6) of *The BFD* know, [lockdowns](https://goodoil.news/lockdowns-do-not-work/)[ don’t work](https://goodoil.news/lockdowns-do-not-work/). Those who still believe in lockdowns however like to point at Sweden as proof that without them, things would be “so much worse”. This despite New Zealand having no land borders and less population density and thus not being comparable. Now it seems that Covid deaths in Sweden are plummeting quicker than in the UK. Summit News [explains](https://summit.news/2021/02/18/no-lockdown-sweden-sees-covid-deaths-plummet-quicker-than-uk/?ref=goodoil.news):

> While the media in the UK is asserting lockdown measures caused COVID-19 deaths and cases to plummet, Sweden saw an even greater drop off in deaths despite enforcing comparatively minor restrictions.

Lockdowns, like the “War on Drugs” and “Action on Climate Change”, are examples of what I call “bogeyman” policies. That is, “we know doing x costs, but if we don’t do x then y will happen and y will cost so much more.” In summary, they’re basically just the modern equivalent of sacrificing the first born so that the crops don’t die.
