On Friday, *Newsroom* published an article called [Why Does Everyone Hate Wellington?](https://www.newsroom.co.nz/why-does-everybody-hate-wellington?ref=goodoil.news) It was updated yesterday with a timely quote from mayor-elect Wayne Brown:

> Let me be very clear: Wellington’s job is to listen to what Aucklanders say are our priorities, and to fund them – **not impose ideological schemes like the $30 billion airport tram, untrammelled housing intensification and Three Waters on a city that doesn’t want them**.

That sentiment has been largely echoed throughout the country with a marked change of local government guards yesterday.

In Christchurch, incoming mayor Phil Mauger says:

> I have consistently said during the campaign that **I do not believe there is any place for party politics around the council table**. I promise to be a mayor who listens to all ideas and works with people to get the best outcomes for our city.

[*RNZ* sums up the pronounced swing to the political right](https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/476311/local-body-elections-changing-of-the-guard-across-country?ref=goodoil.news) and spoke with LGNZ president Stuart Crosby, who wonders if voters are reacting to the Labour Government and its unwanted reforms.

> That is **quite upsetting** to a large number of people. \[…\]

> And it does lay a platform for the general election coming through this time next year, as well.

And, thanks to one committed campaigner, [Rodney ward might be getting its potholes finally fixed](https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/300708242/penisspraying-candidate-takes-out-local-board-contest?ref=goodoil.news) and speed bumps removed.
