Good morning. Here are 3 of the 10 stories in today's Ten@10.

## 1\. Rodney Hide asked AI for Winston Peters’ worldview. Three words: don’t sell the farm.

Hide’s AI assistant went through Winston’s speeches back to his 1979 maiden speech, which reads like a classical liberal: “we are our brothers’ keepers, not our bludgers’ keepers.” It tracks the turn to economic nationalism after Bolger sacked him, and a creed of one people, one law, one flag. Hide’s verdict on the man: “His best speech was his first.”

## 2\. A judge says unverifiable stories are no basis for knowledge. So why is tikanga law?

Gary Judd KC takes retired judge David Harvey’s line on oral tradition, “authority without accountability”, and holds it against the Supreme Court’s own Statement of Tikanga, which says some tikanga is tapu and kept to experts. Then a Montenegrin taxi driver asks if Kiwis “do witchcraft”. Judd thinks she had a point.

## 3\. Australia is shopping its censorship law around. New Zealand is on the list.

Communications Minister Anika Wells wants a global coalition to take on tech companies, and has already talked to New Zealand among others. Her model is a Digital Duty of Care Bill with fines up to A$109.2 million, age checks for everyone, and not one mention of free speech in 90 pages.
