In a lengthy statement on social media, Tamaki claimed police told organisers they “will not support or facilitate an unpermitted march”, despite NZTA not yet ruling on the group’s formal application.

He argued this amounted to political interference, alleging police had previously assisted other demonstrations, including Toitu te Tiriti and pro-Gaza rallies, but were now blocking a “Kiwi Patriots” protest.

Tamaki also questioned whether pressure was coming from senior government ministers, and criticised Waitematā District Commander Naila Hassan – claims which police have not responded to publicly.

He further accused the police of internal failings and said the force “has no moral authority” to restrict protests.

Tamaki maintains the bridge march will go ahead regardless of whether it is approved, saying supporters will “peacefully cross” to highlight a growing movement of discontent.
