Italy, Germany, France and then New Zealand. If you rely on local MSM to report on what has happened and what the future may hold, you are barking. Whether being Jonny Come Lately to most global trends is mere mindless administration groupthink or whether it is being plotted by people stroking cats in subterranean lairs I will leave it for you to decide. I oscillate between the two stances on an almost daily basis. The aforementioned European countries give a perspective on the recent past and then, maybe, a glimpse of what the future has in store.

Let’s start with my jumper. I buy a lot of my clothes from a store that has a gun dog as its logo. If I look at the labels in the wool jumper I am wearing as I type, it says ‘Made in China’. No surprises there. But under the dog it says ‘Italian Yarn’. Well, there’s something to elevate the garment into the level above the Red Shed, then. Yarn from fine Italian craftsmen with their trade handed down through generations of skilled artisans. Well, No. The entire Italian textile industry was bought lock stock and barrel by the Chinese about ten years ago and their factories are staffed by imported Chinese workers.

Chinese New Year 2020 was on January 25th. If you are Chinese what you do for New Year is go home – especially for the New Year’s Eve Dinner. Late January 2020 in China there was other stuff going on, a virus was ’emerging’. There were videos of chaps dropping dead in the streets (I called nonsense on this at the time – this was an upper respiratory virus and not easily transmissible thoracic aortic dissection) and of apartments being welded shut to enforce ‘lockdown’. This was a term that in 2019 only applied to prison riots but here we had the Chinese doing it to lock up healthy people to arrest the progress of a viral illness. Initially, the rest of the world was aghast, ‘They could only do that in a totalitarian state’. Hold my beer.

After CNY workers go back to Italy to make the yarn for my jumpers and on March 9th Italy locks down. A week later the infamous Prof Ferguson says ‘When we saw Italy do it, we knew we could get away with it’. The first UK lockdown follows in short order. Just a short sharp shock to ‘flatten the sombrero’ (give me a break) of course. But the foot is in the door. Group think or centrally planned malfeasance? Of course, NZ joins in (along with the rest of the world, to be fair) and we are on our way.

As we soon found out, and are still experiencing, there is nothing as permanent as a temporary emergency measure. Two years out we still have ‘orange’ whatever that means this week. But it does mean that in an incremental, and I would argue underhand way, the controls on our lives have become more invasive whilst being sold to us as a backing off. Mandates of a possibly useless and definitely unsafe ‘vaccine’ are firmly entrenched and although they are promised to be removed ‘when they are no longer needed, I am not holding my breath. And don’t start me on masks. We are being softened up for the new normal and the pushback is depressingly limp.

And the future? Germany. They are ‘considering’ (read are going to do it) making masks mandatory for all in October – because it’s October. This protects the poor Germans, who presumably have no native immune system, from winter respiratory ailments that might include COVID. They are ‘considering’ (vide supra) this for EVERY winter from October to Easter. I mean, you already have to fit winter tyres during this period so, why not a mask? So we have mandate creep from COVID to something that might include COVID – just to give it a bit of credibility, I suppose.

But there’s more. France. Over the weekend a region in France (I can’t the remember exact location) has banned outdoor gatherings during the current ‘heatwave’ – a hotter than normal summer. Ignore the ‘Summer arrives, France surrenders’ jibes and just ponder the mission creep for a moment. It all seems too easy does it not? Administrations have softened up the populace with COVID that can kill at 50 paces (Hmmm) and now all bets are off.

Will our administration resist the temptation to join in this global groupthink?

> ‘When we saw Italy do it, we knew we could get away with it’.

I can’t see them letting go of masks until they absolutely have to and likewise for the remaining ‘vaccine’ mandates. And that’s just for openers. They have more weaponised elf’n’safety based freedom erosions up their sleeves- reduced speed limits, endless regulations around climate change etc. etc. We really have to be on our guard and remember, we can never comply our way out of this.
