# The BFD Stuff Up of the Day

***Stuff*** March 12th had an article about the coronavirus “outbreak” officially being declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation. Within that article, it states that New Zealand now has **two cases** of the virus. I suspect the article was written some time ago in preparation for the declaration but I would also expect that it was at least checked and updated prior to publishing. The impression I’ve been left with is an incredibly sloppy organisation with non-existent editorial standards.

> \[…\] For example, you could say that because New Zealand has now had **two cases** of the novel coronavirus, we are experiencing an outbreak.

> \[…\] That is yet to occur in New Zealand with coronavirus, as **two cases** seen in Auckland are believed to unrelated or “sporadic” as the patients had both just returned from different overseas countries – Italy and Iran – where they’re believed to have caught it.
