- Description: Labor are happy to walk past an awful lot if there’s a vote in it.

‘The standard you walk past is the standard you accept,’ the left like to finger-wag the rest of us. Except the Australian left are prepared to walk past a whole lot, especially when it comes to Islam. When **Israel Folau** pointed out that, like gamblers and adulterers, homosexuals are in Christianity’s sin bin, his career was abruptly terminated. Yet, Australia’s foremost imams can thunder against homosexuality until the goats come home and all’s fine.

Sydney Swans players were dragged through the media-political meat-grinder for the heinous sin of hiring a couple of hookers for a private strip show and taking one more smack on the backside than they’d paid for. They were publicly vilified for ‘promoting violence against women’. The left-media linked their antics to domestic murder. Yet, Australia’s leading imams can howl that women are like ‘uncovered meat’ and (truthfully) explain how Islam sanctions wife-beating, and nothing happens.

The left and Muslims howl about supposed ‘Islamophobia’ the instant someone so much as looks askance at a woman dressed in a black tent in Sydney’s streets, yet Muslims openly bay for the blood of Jews and they never face so much as mild rebuke from the left-media.

In fact, they continue to roll in tens of millions of taxpayers’ money, thanks to Labor governments.

The latest illustration of this selective blindness arrived with the attack on independent MP **Helen Haines**. After being hit by a car outside her Wangaratta office, she has lost both her legs. **Anthony Albanese** was quick enough with the flowers and the “deliberate act” language, but the moment the suspect’s politics looked left-leaning he went into immediate reverse-ferret mode.

> [As soon as](https://www.theaustralian.com.au/commentary/helen-haines-attack-exposes-our-spineless-prime-minister-once-again/news-story/f09ecf7cacae79a599adda21ae893f20?ref=goodoil.news) the political leanings of Haines’ alleged attacker, **Brendan Nugent**, appeared to show him as an individual with a leftist ideology, Albanese quickly pivoted into using the attack on the well-liked MP as an argument for his digital duty of care legislation.

Police already have every law they need for a physical assault. There is no evidence of online threats from Nugent. The real point was the usual one: seize the chance to push more restrictions on ordinary speech while the actual source of organised hate remains untouched.

That source has been on display for years. ASIO has roughly 300 people in counter-violent-extremism programmes; well over 200 show “no change” in risk: meaning that so-called “de-radicalisation” is an exercise in failure. In September, **Mohamed Bakit** was charged in Melbourne with terrorism offences for online dissemination of thousands of files including execution videos and attack guides. He has been bailed. In a week, convicted ISIS figure **Isaac El Matari** is due for release unless a continuing detention order is secured, but questions about him are met with silence on “privacy” grounds. Meanwhile the sermons continue.

Melbourne’s [**Samir “Abu Hamza” Mohtadi**](https://goodoil.news/do-we-believe-them-or-believe-them/) is still in line for $600,000 of Victorian taxpayer money for the largest Islamic centre in the northern suburbs. In a lecture titled “The Keys to a Successful Marriage”, he explained the rules.

> [Men can “beat”](https://x.com/Ryandally08/status/2112366033713700940?ref=goodoil.news) their wives as a “last resort” to “shape them up”, just don’t bruise or draw blood.
>
> “How can a person rape his wife?”

Wives must drop everything, even cooking, when the husband wants sex. Disobey and “you will go to hell”. Keep the house “nice and clean” and wear perfume. The same legacy media that has been having fainting fits over the so-called ‘manosphere’ are completely silent.

Meanwhile, the same imam has been linked by UAE authorities to the accused Flydubai pilot who allegedly planned to crash a jet into Ben Gurion – the pilot’s radicalisation reportedly began in Melbourne. Labor MPs still pose for photos with him.

Premier **Ben Carroll** called the comments “completely disgusting and vile” and then refused to rule out more cash for MyCentre. The Victorian government has already promised the organisation more than $600,000\. Opposition Leader **Jess Wilson** has said she will cut the funding and cancel planning approvals for the mega-mosque and schools. That is the difference between a soundbite and a policy.

Albanese’s own record is consistent. He was slow to address radical Islam after the Bondi attack last December, conspicuous by his absence from Sydney after the early flowers and has produced no submission to the royal commission into the country’s worst terrorist attack. FOI documents confirm the absence. He has never fronted the kind of public testimony previous prime ministers routinely gave. Tuesday’s staged photo opportunity with the AFP commissioner, **Tony Burke**, the Victorian police chief and the embattled Carroll, was another performance piece. The commissioner was being used to burnish a state election rather than briefing ministers ahead of the return of parliament.

Labor talks tough about the online world when it wants to change the conversation. It reaches for ever more draconian speech laws while doing next to nothing about the clear and present danger already metastasising under existing statutes. The laws on terrorism, incitement and hate preaching are already on the books. Judges can err on the side of community safety. Leaders can suspend funding the moment sermons treat wife-beating and marital rape as ordinary. None of that requires a new digital duty of care. It requires a spine.

If the standard walked past is the standard accepted, the Australian left has accepted a great deal. The sermons, the bail, the taxpayer cheques and the silence after Bondi are not accidents, but the predictable result of elevating multicultural sensitivity above the protection of Australian women, Jews and the ordinary public. France’s pattern of violence-fuelled anti-Western hate is not a distant warning. It is already here.
