It looks like the world is starting to finally wake up to the [dangers of puberty blockers.](https://genderclinicnews.substack.com/p/first-strike-against-puberty-blockers?publication%5Fid=627677&post%5Fid=96838603&isFreemail=true)

> The Italian Psychoanalytic Society has written to the country’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressing “great concern” about the use of puberty blockers with children and calling for “rigorous scientific discussion” of youth gender problems.
>
> \[…\] “The diagnosis of gender dysphoria at prepubertal age is based on the statements of the individuals concerned and cannot be subject to careful evaluation while the development of sexual identity is still in progress,” the letter says.
>
> “Only a minority of children who state that they do not identify with their \[biological\] sex confirm this position in adolescence, after puberty.
>
> Hormone suppression drugs, known as Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone agonists (GnRHa), were [adopted](https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/0092623X.2022.2121238?ref=goodoil.news) for puberty blockade in the 1990s by gender clinicians in the Netherlands.
>
> This use of puberty blockers is the first stage in what has become known internationally as the “Dutch protocol” for the medical transition of dysphoric juveniles who report a distressful disconnect between their biological sex and an inner, opposite-sex identity.
>
> \[…\] Picked up by affluent countries across the Western world, the puberty blocker promise of escape from unwanted sexual development has helped drive an exponential growth in adolescent patients at gender clinics.
>
> \[…\] However, on the limited data available, the vast majority of those who start on puberty blockers — given as young as 10 years of age — go on to cross-sex hormones. The safety and reversibility of puberty blockers is contested.
>
> Recent systematic reviews of the medical literature have [found](https://segm.org/NICE%5Fgender%5Fmedicine%5Fsystematic%5Freview%5Ffinds%5Fpoor%5Fquality%5Fevidence?ref=goodoil.news) that the evidence base for the use of puberty blocker drugs with gender-dysphoric adolescents is weak and uncertain. Since 2020 [Finland](https://segm.org/Finland%5Fdeviates%5Ffrom%5FWPATH%5Fprioritizing%5Fpsychotherapy%5Fno%5Fsurgery%5Ffor%5Fminors?ref=goodoil.news), [Sweden](https://genderclinicnews.substack.com/p/sweden-transitions-to-caution) and [England](https://genderclinicnews.substack.com/p/explorers-wanted) have issued new, more cautious policies to end the routine use of puberty blockers.

Make no mistake. This is child abuse. If we were to allow kids as young as 10 to smoke weed, knowing the harm it does to the developing brain, there would be (rightfully) outrage. Yet here we are with chemicals being prescribed to kids with little knowledge of the risk or whether they even work.

The suicide rate for those who see themselves as transgender is shocking. The trans lobby will say that this is because of bullying or whatever excuse is in fashion. Fact is, as [Jordan Peterson](https://twitter.com/jordanbpeterson/status/1598367389548445696?ref=goodoil.news) points out, gender dysphoria is comorbid with major depression or anxiety, which is the reason for the high suicide rate.

The good news is the tide has turned. Next step, lawsuits: to help ensure nothing like this ever happens again.
