Journalist Bari Weiss tweeted on Thursday that Twitter placed [Bhattacharya’s Twitter page](https://twitter.com/bariweiss/status/1601011428579717121?s=20&t=bKIKOUVpcbVG4fJ-gHON5A&ref=goodoil.news) on a “Trends Blacklist” for his critiques of COVID-19 lockdowns. Bhattacharya [said](https://twitter.com/drjbhattacharya/status/1602052936921939968?s=46&t=AS4k1VcZ7ymPo2LHbazm0A&ref=goodoil.news) pre-Musk Twitter [placed](https://twitter.com/drjbhattacharya/status/1602052938196602881?s=46&t=AS4k1VcZ7ymPo2LHbazm0A&ref=goodoil.news) him on a trends ”blacklist” his very first day on the platform in August 2021, probably due to his pinned tweet of the [Great Barrington Declaration](https://gbdeclaration.org/?ref=goodoil.news) and general complaints users made to Twitter. The declaration, originally [written](https://gbdeclaration.org/why-was-the-declaration-written/?ref=goodoil.news) by Bhattacharya and two other doctors in October 2020, opposes COVID-19 lockdown and masking measures and has since [been signed](https://gbdeclaration.org/view-signatures/?ref=goodoil.news) by over 934,000 people, including 63,267 medical practitioners and scientists. Social media companies censored the declaration because it contradicted the narrative that the COVID-19 science was “settled” and that all qualified doctors agreed on masking and lockdowns. Bhattacharya’s tweet of the declaration immediately marked him for Twitter targeting. Bhattacharya [continued](https://twitter.com/drjbhattacharya/status/1602052939467485184?s=46&t=AS4k1VcZ7ymPo2LHbazm0A&ref=goodoil.news) his tweet thread, “Twitter 1.0 rejected requests for verification by me and @[MartinKulldorff](https://mobile.twitter.com/martinkulldorff?ref=goodoil.news).” Epidemiologist [Kulldorff](https://brownstone.org/author/martin-kulldorff/?ref=goodoil.news) was a co-author of the Great Barrington Declaration. “Each time the reasoning (never conveyed to us) was that we were not notable enough,” Bhattacharya tweeted. Meanwhile, relatively unknown leftist journalists [obtained](https://twitter.com/WaPoSean?ref=goodoil.news) [verification](https://mobile.twitter.com/NYTimesCramer?ref=goodoil.news) on Twitter. The doctor added sarcastically: “They should have asked \[National Institutes of Health Director\] [Francis Collins](https://www.nih.gov/farewell-dr-francis-collins?ref=goodoil.news) — he would have vouched for our standing as ‘fringe epidemiologists.’” Collins [endorsed](https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/free-speech/catherine-salgado/2021/11/19/nih-director-calls-so-called-online-misinformation?ref=goodoil.news) increased censorship in November 2021, saying alleged “misinformation” spreaders ought to be “brought to justice.” Bhattacharya [ended](https://twitter.com/drjbhattacharya/status/1602052940738404352?s=46&t=AS4k1VcZ7ymPo2LHbazm0A&ref=goodoil.news): “It will take some time to find out more about what led Twitter 1.0 to act so imperiously, but I am grateful to @elonmusk, who has promised access to help find out.
