It’s about time someone outside the conservative ecosphere admitted the obvious about the insufferable narcissists that plague the *Washington Post* newsroom. But no one could have expected the admission to come from the newspaper’s owner.

*Post* owner Jeff Bezos apparently told then-President-elect Donald Trump during dinner in December 2024 that his bailout of the failing newspaper was his worst investment, according to a book excerpt by *New York Times* writers Jonathan Swan and Maggie Haberman exclusively [obtained](https://nypost.com/2026/06/17/us-news/jeff-bezos-told-trump-the-washington-post-was-his-worst-investment-before-slashing-staff-people-there-are-terrible/?utm%5Fcampaign=nypost&utm%5Fsource=twitter&utm%5Fmedium=social) by the *New York Post.*

“The people there are terrible,” Bezos said. “They don’t listen. My other companies, they listen.” Ouch. Journalists think they don’t have to care about the business. 

What makes this even more humiliating for the *Post* is that it [would go on to lose](https://www.wsj.com/business/media/washington-post-losses-topped-100-million-in-2025-85076aae?ref=goodoil.news) over $100 million in 2025, [effectively justifying](https://www.npr.org/2026/02/04/nx-s1-5699328/washington-post-layoffs-jobs-bezos?ref=goodoil.news) Bezos’s order for mass layoffs in February 2026\. These layoffs amounted to “eliminating roughly a third of \[the *Post’s*\] workforce, including all staff photographers and the sports section,” the *New York Post* noted.

As it turns out, continuously [peppering](https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/rich-noyes/2020/04/25/study-washington-post-bashes-trump-virus-response-25-1-negative?ref=goodoil.news) readers with [leftist agitprop](https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/tim-graham/2026/04/03/washington-post-finds-hero-queer-kiddies-fired-tennessee-librarian?ref=goodoil.news) like it’s a [bad habit](https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/business/joseph-vazquez/2026/02/14/bad-breath-washpost-editorial-board-spews-hot-air-trump?ref=goodoil.news) isn’t a sustainable business model for a newspaper that purportedly thrives off credibility, and Bezos clearly understood this from a corporate perspective.

Now, the poor lefty journos at the *Post* are having to admit that [nutty wealth tax proposals](https://newsbusters.org/blogs/business/joseph-vazquez/2026/03/04/wow-washpost-editorial-board-skewers-nutty-bernie-sanders?ref=goodoil.news) are actually pretty terrible, that the health insurance monstrosity [known](https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/business/joseph-vazquez/2025/10/06/15-years-later-washpost-editorial-board-says-obamacare-was?ref=goodoil.news) as Obamacare was “never actually affordable,” and that the federal government [had grown](https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/business/joseph-vazquez/2025/10/09/washpost-editorial-board-now-admits-government-too-big?ref=goodoil.news) “too big” and needed downsizing.
