Having fought with all his might to avoid a royal commission into the tidal wave of antisemitism that culminated (so far) in the Bondi terror attack, PM **Anthony Albanese** did everything he could to de-fang it from the start. Now, he’s making sure the child he never wanted never comes to full term. As former West Australian Supreme Court justice **Kenneth Wyatt** says, the prime minister put a “tight leash” around the antisemitism royal commission. More like a stranglehold: severely restricting its terms of reference, and giving it less than a year to complete its work. It took a mighty groundswell of outrage to even force Albanese, kicking and screaming, tricking and scheming, into grudgingly agreeing to a royal commission in the first place. Now another groundswell is demanding that the RC be allowed more time to complete its work. This time, Albanese has put the jackboot down. The government used its lower house majority to summarily squash any extension. The sole Greens lower house MP lined up with the government. So, even while the Albanese government is preaching about ‘social cohesion’, it’s funding the very hate groups who’ve not just undermined social cohesion in Australia, but fired the timbers, collapsed the tunnels and shot the survivors trying to escape. > Radical Islamic preachers **Mizanur Rahman Azhari** and **Shaykh Ahmadullah** were granted visas and travelled to Australia as part of a speaking tour, but were deported after objections from the Jewish community. > > Online influencer “Sneako”, whose real name is **Nicolas Kenn De Balinthazy**, was granted a visa in May despite his years-long track record of antisemitic, misogynistic and white supremacist rhetoric. > > Three weeks before his arrival in Australia he had led a group in the “Khaybar chant”. ‘Khaybar’ refers to the massacre at the Khaybar oasis near Medina, where the warlord Muhammad repaid the kindness of the Jewish tribes of that city, who granted refuge to the Muslims fleeing Mecca, by slaughtering them, torturing and beheading the prisoners, and raping the captive women. “Remember Khaybar” has long been a historic death threat from Muslims to Jews. > OnePath Network, an Islamic education media company based in Australia, was a beneficiary of a Home Affairs grant for $308,000 “to support social cohesion and sustainability of independent multicultural media outlets” for use between June 16 this year and June 30 next year. \[Barrister **Nick Bender** SC\] said the interview “raises at least a very substantial concern that this grantee is acting inappropriately”. > > A year earlier, he said, it had posted a video titled “How Australia faked antisemitic attacks to save Israel”, which remained online with more than 100,000 views. No wonder the Albanese government wants to strangle the royal commission in the womb. Who knows what more embarrassing secrets it will expose? Because the list of those with something to hide is long and dark, and far too accustomed to hiding from the harsh glare of scrutiny. > \[Opposition education spokesperson **Julian Leeser**\] argued witness lists for the commission had exempted those accused of stoking social divisions, and these potential witnesses deserved thorough cross-examination. > > “First, the arts institutions and cultural sector, the sector that ­doxxed and deplatformed Jews: **Clementine Ford**, **Matt Chun** … why aren’t they asked about their public contributions?,” he said. > > “Second, the universities. Why haven’t we heard from all of the key vice-chancellors who were in positions of power at the time? From people like **Genevieve Bell** from the ANU and **Duncan Maskell** from Melbourne University. > > “Why haven’t we heard from academics like **Randa Abdel-Fattah**, who refuses even to be quoted in an article alongside anyone she deems a ‘Zionist’, and encourages children to support intifada?” > > Mr Leeser questioned why the commission had not heard from protest leaders like the neo-Nazi protesters in Melbourne, Islamic preacher **Wissam Haddad**, Sheik **Ibrahim Dadoun** who said he was “elated” in a rally after the October 7 terrorist attacks on Israel, and protest organisers like **Josh Lees** and Greens parliamentarians **Jenny Leong** and **Mehreen Faruqi**.
