Especially in Brazil: first they tried to assassinate **Jair Bolsanoro**, then they threw their pet courts at him, which no doubt has conservatives up in el Norte doing the *Leonardo DiCaprio Pointing* meme. While leftist judges have obediently barred Bolsonaro the Elder from running from office until 2030, there’s more Bolsonaros where he came from. Enter Bolsonaro the Younger. > [The rally of](https://www.abc.es/internacional/flavio-bolsonaro-asegura-derrotara-lula-elecciones-brasil-20260908093821-nt.html?ref=goodoil.news) presidential candidate **Flávio Bolsonaro** on the Paulista Avenue in Sao Paulo, the framework of Brazil’s main political demonstrations, began on Monday with \[Our Fathers\] who were sung by the evangelical bishop **Sonia Hernandes**, of the Renacer church, followed by prayers and speeches from other neo-Pentecostal pastors and politicians who were a majority on the stand. “We will consecrate so that every work of evil darkness will not have the power to occupy any position of authority in this country,” the bishop said. Strong medicine in a country where nearly 80 per cent of the country are Christian and Christ the Redeemer towers over the nation’s second-largest city. Tens of thousands turned out in the colours of the flag. Flávio wore a bulletproof vest because he claims to know what “the left is capable of doing”. Quite: he only has to ask his dad, who barely survived being stabbed on the campaign trail in 2018\. The presidential campaigner told the crowd he was running at his father’s request and by “divine providence”. The crowd chanted “Out, Moraes” and “Outside, Lula.” Bolsonaro promised that if elected he will appoint five justices to the Supreme Court because “**Alexandre de Moraes** will fall”. “That guy’s a rotten apple. The Supreme is not Alexandre de Moraes.” The man they want gone is the same judge who locked Jair Bolsonaro in house prison for the 8 January 2023 Brasilia riot and declared him ineligible. Moraes is now the one under the microscope. Leaked federal police material, unsealed by fellow justice **André Mendonça**, shows the law firm of Moraes’s wife signed contracts worth around R$131 million with jailed Banco Master owner **Daniel Vorcaro**. Metadata indicates Moraes edited the draft. Investigators mapped meetings, messages, a second R$50 million contract and talk of aircraft shares as payment. The firm says he only checked for conflicts of interest. The optics are radioactive. And so Flávio’s campaign has gone from accused to accuser overnight. They now tie incumbent **Lula de Silva** to the same circle, noting the president’s long and convenient friendship with the court that keeps saving him. For Lula, that would just be business-as-usual. Operation Car Wash convicted him of passive corruption and money laundering over a beachfront triplex and Petrobras kickbacks. **Sergio Moro** sentenced him to nine-and-a-half years and an appeals court raised it to 12\. He served 580 days before the Supreme Court – the same court Moraes now sits on – annulled the convictions on jurisdiction and bias grounds and handed him back the presidency. The “impression that I am a thief”, as Lula himself once put it, never quite faded. The left called it lawfare when it happened to them. They call it justice when Moraes does it to Bolsonaro. Flávio, campaigning less than a month from the 4 October first round, is trying to turn that hypocrisy into votes. He pledges to declare the criminal gangs PCC and Comando Vermelho terrorist organisations, echoing El Salvador’s **Nayib Bukele**, who stopped that country’s criminal reign of murder almost overnight and earned him a 90 per cent approval rating. Flávio also wants to lower the age of criminal responsibility, introduce chemical castration for rapists and imprison phone thieves for at least eight years. Jair was stabbed in 2018, convicted in what his son calls a “sham”, and barred until 2030\. The son now stands on the same Independence Day stage his father once used to attack the electronic ballot boxes, this time promising to pack the court instead of defy it. The pastors bless the enterprise. The crowd sings the Our Father. And the man who put the father in a box finds his own wife’s contracts on the front page.
