In a classic episode of *Happy Days*, Fonzie struggles to concede that he was wrong about something. As he grapples with an attempt at an apology, he stammers, “I was wr… wr… wr… not right.” The Fonz was a model of contrition, compared to the average feminist harpy.

These demented fishwives would have us believe that young men are consuming **Andrew Tate**’s nonsense like winos chugging a $10 flagon of sherry, beating their chests and pack-hunting girls to molest, as if they were a gang of Pakistanis in a northern town. To her credit, one feminist researcher has actually followed the evidence. To her utter astonishment, she finds that the gynarchy is wr… wr… wr… not right.

> [I came into](https://www.theaustralian.com.au/inquirer/i-thought-young-men-didnt-care-about-consent-then-i-interviewed-them/news-story/8686c658e5bce3de856c74b97e210570?ref=goodoil.news) the interviews thinking most young men were failing on consent. I left them thinking that perhaps we were failing most young men.
>
> First, I expected to find that the men interviewed didn’t care enough about consent. To my surprise, that wasn’t true of any of them. To the contrary, they were so concerned about getting consent wrong that they struggled to enjoy sex.

The author, who spent years embedded in the grievance-studies industry, sat down with dozens of ordinary young blokes on an Australian campus expecting to discover a lair of unreconstructed Neanderthals high on pornography and online misogyny. Instead, she encountered a generation of terrified, hyper-vigilant young men navigating bedroom intimacy with all the joy of a sapper inching across a minefield in the dark.

For these unfortunate lads, romantic encounters have devolved into an anxious ritual of ‘multi-factor authentication’. Intimacy is no longer a natural human passion, but a high-stakes compliance audit. One lad likened it to trying to defuse a live bomb without instructions, petrified that a missed verbal check-in or an ambiguous glance will result in his life being detonated.

And that’s not even reckoning with the feminist dogma that women can ‘retroactively withdraw consent’. A young man could have a ‘permission-to-root’ form signed in triplicate by a female party, with an accompanying breath-test record showing judicial sobriety in both participants, and still face ‘rape’ charges weeks, months, or years later.

> The responsibility we have placed on young men in recent decades seems to have succeeded in making many of them more careful. But it also seems to have succeeded in making many of them suspicious of themselves.
>
> Compounding matters, they believe they now live in a world without mercy. Most described a climate where one mistake, one misunderstanding or one accusation ended everything: a reputation, a career, a circle of friends.

They have internalised the shrieking lectures of the education bureaucracy, the media, and the corporate sisterhood to such an extent that they view themselves as ticking hazards. They have watched their peers cast into outer darkness on mere say-so, stripped of their futures without trial and shunned by terrified friends who dare not show solidarity lest the mob turn on them next.

Yet entirely missing from this touching academic *mea culpa* is any frank admission of the monstrous engine that created this nightmare: the absolute impunity granted to female deceit.

Almost all of the celebrated poster-girls of the modern consent crusade were lying through their teeth. Remember Columbia University’s famous ‘Mattress Girl’, celebrated by politicians and pampered by the media, while the innocent fellow she smeared was dragged through hell? Remember the Duke Lacrosse hoax, where three young lives were shredded by a dancer who, 18 years later, finally admitted the whole sordid tale was an unvarnished fabrication? Or the recent hysteria surrounding the Cornell Seven and the infamous ‘Jane Doe’, whose manufactured lurid accounts collapsed under the weight of receipts and frantic backtracking?

None of these malicious fantasists ever faced the slightest legal or civil repercussion for their slander, nor for the wholesale destruction of the lives of the young men they marked for social execution. The sisterhood simply quietly moved the goalposts and pivoted to the next moral panic, secure in the knowledge that in the feminist star-chamber, the accusation is the verdict and the female is always the victim.

Young men are not stupid: they have observed this kangaroo court in action and drawn the only sensible conclusion. Why risk a career, a family reputation and a prison stretch for the dubious privilege of entertaining an entitled, grievance-besotted girl who might retroactively withdraw consent six months later over brunch? They are simply opting out. They decline to approach, decline to chase and refuse to play the game entirely.

Now, of course, the legacy magazines are filled with hand-wringing screeds by neurotic career women entering their singleton twilight years, tearfully wondering where all the good men have gone and whining that chaps simply refuse to date them any more. Welcome to the world feminism made, cat-ladies. You spent 50 years demanding that men be pathologised, neutered and terrorised into paralysis: don’t start crying now that you’re alone in an apartment reeking of felines and boxed wine.
