Minister for Women Julie Anne Genter’s bid for period poverty funding has failed. What a bloody shame. The idea that some girls and women can’t afford tampons makes some people sad. They think about it quite a lot actually. In fact, it would be fair to say that they think about it periodically.
Is Julie Anne Genter ovary acting about period poverty do you think? Clearly her efforts were all in vein so no coagulations are in order. Some would say that we should give her a standing ovulation for her efforts or perhaps a round of menopause.
She should drown her sorrows by going out to the Haemo Globe Inn so she can party like y’aorta.
The Government has failed to address period poverty in New Zealand, despite the Minister for Women lobbying ministerial colleagues.
Documents obtained by Newshub under the Official Information Act show Julie Anne Genter lobbied Education Minister Chris Hipkins and Minister for Children Tracey Martin to tackle the topic.
It appears there may have even been a Budget bid for funding of sanitary items, but there was no cash for period poverty in Budget 2019.
Genter wrote to both ministers in March 2018 regarding access to sanitary items. The minister strongly recommended to Martin the Government’s Kickstart Breakfast programme include “ongoing funding for sanitary items for young women in low decile schools”.
[…] She also suggested the Education Review Office’s guidelines on sexuality education “provide an opportunity for girls to learn more about cost effective and environmentally friendly options for sanitary items”.

What makes me laugh is how everything has to be about the bloody environment. No one would suggest doing away with toilet paper that is needed every day but for an inconvenience once a bloody month we have to save the environment rather than use something that makes our lives easier.
JAG used cloth nappies for her baby but I highly doubt that she uses reusable sanitary pads. How can she be anti convenient disposable nappies yet want to fund tampons?
