What’s this strange thing behind me?, wonders a flummoxed Hipkins. The BFD.

Chris Hipkins might be the boy-faced ginger Prime Minister who can do no wrong as he attempts to save the Labour Party from defeat. But a look at his past shows that he has developed a bad and rather nasty habit of accusing people falsely then denying he was ever wrong, before being forced to apologise after the fact.

He’s done it again over reports of crime in the Hawkes Bay in the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle:

Prime Minister Chris Hipkins has apologised to the road workers who had a gun pulled on them at a checkpoint in Hawke’s Bay in the wake of Cyclone Gabrielle.

The apology comes after Hipkins initially played down claims of widespread crime in cyclone-hit regions, saying there were no first-hand accounts of people pulling guns on road workers.

But one road worker told Newshub they had given first-hand accounts to the police days earlier.

“I regret that one of the comments that I made was taken to be questioning the authenticity of what people were saying,” Hipkins told AM on Tuesday. “The information that I had from the police, at that point, was clearly incorrect.

“Absolutely, I regret the fact that the intel I had was incorrect at that point.

Newshub

Except that isn’t really an apology is it? It is blaming someone else for poor intel, rather than apologising.

This is of course standard fare for Hipkins, who is in reality a nasty little bully, using his position to denigrate and ridicule people who are only ever telling the truth.

He has a long history of this kind of behaviour.

There was the time he dragged Bill English’s family into a parliamentary debate for some petty points scoring.

Who can forget the shameless and egregious attack against Charlotte Bellis, who had to sue the Government to even get an acknowledgement that they were wrong, and apologise?

Or his racist attack against Pasifika people regarding tourist spending in Queenstown:

He’s never apologised for attacking three workers for border breaches during Auckland’s lockdowns, despite the evidence clearly showing they did nothing wrong.

Are you getting the picture here? Chris Hipkins is a nasty little bully without a care in the world about those who he attacks and maligns and is often a reluctant apologist when forced to admit he was wrong.

We had had enough of Jackboot Jacinda for her nasty, separatist totalitarianism. Chris Hipkins was supposed to shore up Labour’s support and be a change of face for those of us sick to death of Ardern.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
