Many of us will remember that prior to the first COVID-19 lockdown the government’s attention was firmly fixed on passing new abortion laws, regarded as the most radical in the western world.
To give you an idea of just how radical our new abortion law is, the graphic below compares the rights of an unborn farm animal in New Zealand with the rights of an unborn human being.
The BFD. Pre-born Animal Rights vs Pre-born Human Rights
Instead of going fast and early and closing our borders except under quarantine the government’s attention was elsewhere, resulting in economic shockwaves that will cost the country for generations to come.
It has been a feature of this Government that poorly conceived legislation, such as the firearms confiscation, Essential Freshwater and oil exploration moratorium, is rushed through Parliament without due process, and submissions are ignored. It is a shame, given the opportunity, that they did not address some of the real issues around abortion, fertility and adoption.
For example, while the taxpayer has, with a nod and a wink, paid for abortion on demand for many years, we have at the same time paid out millions per year for publicly funded fertility treatments for couples desperate to have a child. They in turn have been through a stressful, time-consuming process that often results in failure and the loss of their own savings.
At the same time, the pool of people wishing to adopt is one hundred times as large as the number of babies available for adoption.
“In 2016, just 128 adoptions were recorded within New Zealand (excluding adoptions from overseas). That’s a third of the number compared with 10 years ago. Go back to 1971, and the number climbs to almost 4000.”

It is easy to abort a child in New Zealand but adoption from overseas can cost aspiring parents as much as $60,000. Modern-day saints foster children from at risk families and form bonds with them in the knowledge they can be taken away by the family at any time.
Many young mothers are totally unaware that their surprise baby is wanted by childless couples with a strong desire to create a loving family home. You have to ask why this message is not getting through, and why the Government is not making adoption an easy path.
New Zealand has had too many years of regressive socialist government. Now is the time to fix this so use your vote wisely
