I recently finished reading this week’s edition of Free Press, the online newsletter from the ACT party which sails into my inbox each Monday. For the first time in ages, it has left me rather impressed. The ACT folk appear to have got the message from the good guys around the country, having undertaken a huge nationwide focus group over the last couple of weeks.
After a 20 year break, consisting mainly of peripheral nonsense (Dancing with the Stars, cuppas with John Key, laws to murder granny to get your hands on her $2 million house, constantly apologising to commies on Facebook), ACT have heard loud and clear from lots of wealthy, downtrodden white folk (let’s be honest here) who are constantly blamed for everything and decided to become the party of capitalism and liberty. Like they were during Richard Prebble’s leadership.
Free Press comments on a split in New Zealand between those in favour (48%) of another lockdown and those (46%) who are not in favour according to a February opinion poll on the Omicron disease.
It also seems the penny has dropped that those in favour – the 48% – are basically losers sucking upon somebody else’s teat who are best ignored.
The ACT bread is buttered with the 46% and they are best served by scooping up buckets of those votes rather than trying to persuade the others of the error of their indolent ways.
The ACT party made a huge error by obsequiously crawling around on its knees in response to Ardern’s ‘command’ that protesters at Parliament be ignored – or else she wouldn’t play with them anymore; AND they wouldn’t be invited to socialist cocktail parties with the ‘educated and intelligent’ people; AND would be called racists. Why anybody would consider any of that some sort of ‘sanction’ is beyond the comprehension of handsome, concupiscent country boys everywhere (i.e. me!)
But as we know, Mr Seymour hastily complied, losing an enormous amount of hard-won respect in the process. We all know the story and it was hugely disappointing.
However Free Press this week does give a glimmer of hope for those of us who are the good guys in New Zealand when ACT says things like “….a tension at the heart of our nation and a wrestle for its soul…”. Good stuff! Time to stop wandering around appearing almost apologetic for being a capitalist and freedom lover; turn the volume up to 11.
“We are right and you are wrong so there is nothing to debate,” would be my attitude to critics right up to the next election. If I was the ACT party I’d rather be cheered by the 146 rich white folks in Pauanui (a marvellous spot!) than worry about dreary starving losers in some Manurewa slum (both groups are reaping what they’ve sown).
“They’re poor and starving because we don’t have ACT policies,” would be my refrain – rather than the “Oh gosh the Greens say they are victims of capitalism so it must be correct but please, please, please don’t call me nasty names on Facebook” behaviour we’ve seen from ACT for years. Pathetic.
If the right people are going to win the battle for the soul of New Zealand, we need to be uncompromising and unapologetic, and demonise the socialist policies which have caused all the problems. Everyone needs to be a bit more like, well, your favourite Capitalist.
