Will these be these be the faces of the next coalition government or will the National Party

A message to Todd Muller and the Nats. Do you want to win the election? Here’s your sentence.

We will rescind any agreement put in place by this Government that involves the use of taxpayer money to purchase the disputed land at Ihumatao or any other privately owned land occupied in a like manner.

Saying you oppose it is simply not good enough. There is a huge amount at stake here.

This is an enormous test of National’s mettle. It will, to a large degree, show what stuff National are made of and where they really stand on these sorts of issues. Are they a party prepared to deal to matters such as these? Apart from the economy in relation to COVID, National should make this issue THE issue of the election. It is that important in terms of the potential gravity of the consequences.

Todd Muller needs to make a strong unequivocal statement that a National Government that he leads will not countenance any such occupying of privately owned land and neither will there be any discussions on possible agreements. This needs to be said now while Winston, whose party has just shafted the gun lobby, appears from his utterances so far to be between a rock and a hard place. The moral high ground is there for the taking.

What we are now reading with regard to the possible outcome is the very reason Ardern should not have got involved. This Prime Minister does not possess the intelligence, the acumen or indeed the basic know-how when it comes to handling these situations. If the outcome is as we read it, then she is indisputably unfit for her position. To make such an agreement with seemingly no cognisance of the possible ruinous outcomes shows a complete disregard for her “team of five million” minus the protestors.

The majority of the country will be looking for strong leadership on this issue. National’s moment has arrived. With an election looming will it look a gift horse in the mouth?

Will these be these be the faces of the next coalition government?
