I never thought I’d have to write an article about this, but we are now in a position where we have to. The economy is in the pits, and now it is finally hurting us.

On Monday you guys did us proud, and the new sign ups and the amazing donations have really helped.

Thanks everyone who rallied to our call and thank you for your support. It means a great deal to us.

But we aren’t out of the woods yet, there is still a way to go.

Over the past six months, we have seen memberships decline to the point where The BFD is going to have to make some cuts in order to keep our quality content flowing.

It has gotten to such a point that monthly income now barely covers our expenses. All our core costs have expanded, from hosting prices to licences for all the bits and pieces that keep everything humming along. We have absorbed those over the past several years, right through the Covid debacle.

One thing we are resolved not to do is what our suppliers have done, which is to increase the cost of the service we provide.

But it has now reached a point where something has to give.

So, with expensive app fees, and licence fees looming in order to keep MyBFD alive, we have made the difficult decision to close down MyBFD. The use of it and the required bandwidth from both myself and Ranty to keep it functioning, for no real discernible benefit to The BFD in general has led us to make this difficult decision. We will turn it off at the end of this month.

We are currently assessing other options for cost-cutting as well and we will keep you informed of them in the coming months.

Times are tough; we are almost entirely funded by our members, and our members are significantly fewer than six months ago. Something has to give, otherwise, we’ll just have to shut the whole thing down.

We don’t want to do that, but we have to face facts. While some of you value what we do

most of you do not value us at all,

not even for a basic membership.

Advertising revenue is negligible.

One option we may entertain is making this a members-only site catering to those who value us, rather than those who don’t. That would be a shame, but things are that bad.

It is sad to have to write this, but we have said as much over months, that it really is up to you our readers. Sadly the membership has declined to the point where we have to make drastic changes.

That would be a real shame, especially for the dozens of volunteers who put their blood sweat and tears into making sure we are the biggest and strongest conservative voice in New Zealand media.

Do you want that voice to continue?

It is really up to you guys.

Expenses are growing, ad revenue is shrinking. Things have to change otherwise we will need to cut services. We don’t want to have to do that. It’s really up to you.

The Case Against Foreign Aid

The Case Against Foreign Aid

There no evidence that foreign aid has ever turned a poor country into a rich country; it is much more likely that foreign aid undermines economic development by giving politicians in recipient nations an excuse to delay or avoid needed reforms.
