The fight for the White House is over, and Donald Trump is headed once again for the Oval Office. Of course, his win has sparked a new left-wing movement: MATGA, or Make Aqua Tofana Great Again. This movement of disgruntled progressive women is going viral – and its message is so disturbing some are demanding the FBI intervene.
MATGA Gains Traction
MATGA is an online trend of women promoting the use of Aqua Tofana – a deadly poison concocted in the 1600s and often used by women to secretly murder their husbands. The poison was named after Giulia Tofana, the woman credited with creating the murderous potion and blamed for the deaths of more than 600 men.
“Sure, my body, your choice,” is a favored theme on these videos, along with various dangerous messages suggesting harm to men. One woman with green hair posted a video saying, “Aqua Tofana isn’t that hard to make,” followed by a throat-slitting gesture with her thumb.
There are numerous posts promoting the MATGA movement, some receiving more than a million hits. In several, a lyric from the song “Venom” by Eminem is playing in the background: “This [expletive] world better prepare to get laced because they’re gonna taste my venom.”
In other videos, women show off stylish rings with hidden compartments where poison could be stored and then secretly dropped into someone’s drink. In one post, a woman stands in front of a full-length mirror, showing off her ring. Text over the video reads, “My advice for American women. I know you will understand. They asked for it.”
Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) called out the FBI in a post on X, writing:
@FBI these are public death threats and must [be] investigated. These women are telling others how to poison and murder men because they are angry over the election. If you tracked down J6’ers [Jan 6 rioters], pro-lifers, parents angry at school boards, then you better go after these psychopaths!
The bureau, however, apparently doesn’t see a serious danger and sent an email statement to Newsweek, saying:
The FBI investigates federal crimes and threats to the national security. We will never open an investigation based solely on First Amendment protected activity.
4B Movement Growing in America
The re-election of Donald Trump not only inspired the MATGA movement but also sent liberal American women into a frenzy, with many vowing to join the 4B movement, which started in South Korea in 2019. The four Bs stand for bihon (no marriage), bichulsan (no childbirth), biyeonae (no dating), and bisekseu (no sex), and it began as a protest by South Korean women who wanted to dismantle traditional expectations, Newsweek explained. “[I]t encourages women to reclaim autonomy over their bodies and reject traditional gender norms of marriage and childbearing.”
“The 4B Movement is a powerful example of women pushing back against the roles society expects them to fill,” psychologist and dating expert Leah Levi told Newsweek.
Abby, a 27-year-old from Florida, decided to break up with her boyfriend after the election. She told Newsweek: “I knew that my boyfriend and I didn’t exactly see how bad it was until election night.” She said that “Trump’s victory has lit a flame for a lot of women,” adding that she saw the re-election as a reminder that a lot of American men who voted for Trump “prioritize financial concerns over women’s safety.”
“Now, in a Trump-led country, my safety is more of a concern than ever,” a teacher told the outlet. “I plan to do as much de-centering of men as possible, beyond the groundwork I have already started. This means not appealing to the male gaze and not allowing myself to be part of a system that directly benefits men.”
So, what is the goal of all this?
Gabrielle Oliver, 28, a creative advertising copywriter from Maryland, believes Kamala Harris lost the presidential election because she is “a black woman in a country with racist roots who did not want to see a woman in power,” Newsweek reported. She has joined the 4B movement and references how South Korea’s birth rate dropped after women started rejecting men, “with over 150 schools reporting no new first graders due to the declining birth rate.” She told then suggested: “We can do the same and grow our movement even more so that people understand just how dire this predicament of inequality is.”
Trump’s win has thrown many liberal women into a frenzy – but 4B is a personal choice that doesn’t necessarily harm anyone, and it seems unlikely that many male Trump voters are going to miss those who take that path anyway. MATGA, on the other hand, is crossing a dangerous line. Promoting harm as a protest method is unsafe and unproductive; it also weakens the message of women’s rights and respect.
