What will it take the Climate Cult to admit that their demented ‘Net Zero’ is a complete bust? When the most resources-rich state in resources-rich Australia is going bust and risking rolling blackouts, for the sole reason of its obsession with ‘renewables’, is even the ABC ready to admit they screwed the pooch?
Ha bloody ha. As if.
Fulfilling the famous definition of insanity, they’re insisting that they just need more of what’s sending them to the brink of collapse.
Oh, and more taxpayer’s money, it goes without saying. Billions more.
Western Australia’s state-owned power provider is under such financial strain that its responsible minister went to the government seeking a taxpayer-funded bailout valued at hundreds of millions of dollars.
The ABC understands that in the run-up to the mid-year update of WA’s budget towards the end of last year, Energy Minister Reece Whitby sought almost $1 billion in additional operating subsidies for electricity firm Synergy.
But instead of granting the beleaguered utility the money, it is believed the government knocked back the request and instructed Synergy to borrow more than $500 million to ensure it remained viable.
How can anyone go broke, selling electricity to a society that is utterly dependent on it?
Because the government is desperate to hide the true cost of its ‘Net Zero’ lunacy.
The financial difficulties come as the costs to WA of the energy transition mount and as Synergy labours under a government-imposed cap that forces it to sell power to most of its customers at a loss.
They have also prompted warnings that customers not shielded from the true cost of generating power – medium and big businesses – are likely to face major increases to their energy bills.
Oh, you mean, on top of the 25–50 per cent increases in the past couple of years?
Unbelievably, the ABC doubles down on the cause of this horror show.
Earlier this year, the ABC revealed the state was way behind its own targets for replacing coal power with clean energy despite allocating most of the money set aside for the job.
As part of a grand announcement in 2020, then-premier Mark McGowan said the state would spend $3.7 billion on new wind farms and batteries to replace coal plants that would close by 2029.
But even though the government has allocated almost 90 per cent of the budget, the state is still about 60 per cent short of its target for 800 megawatts of new wind farms.
Similarly, Synergy is roughly 400 megawatts off its new batteries’ target.
So, they’ve barely got started on the ‘Net Zero’ nonsense and they’re already going broke?
Anyone with half a brain would take that as a clear signal to stop at once. But this is the Climate Cult we’re talking about.
[Peter Kerr, the owner of energy advisory ATA Consulting] said Synergy’s plunge into big batteries made sense and should ultimately allow the utility to improve its operating position and financial health.
Like socialism, it’ll work next time.
