The Daily Express headline ‘Democrats’ postal vote victories have panicked Tories and Republicans’ caught my eye.
How so?
Could it be because the late crucial deciding results are from Democrat-run states, which all have the ‘mail in voting’ rule, plus a flexible approach to voter ID in a country that claims to have ‘one person, one vote’?
In direct contrast to now largely Republican Florida, with 21 million people who had their results completed by midnight on election day.
Once you allow postal voting, with so many opportunities for inaccuracies, you are entering the arena of the Wild West where, to quote Onassis, ‘the rules are there are no rules’ (no doubt he’s Ardern’s favourite capitalist as she follows the mantra to the letter). But I digress…
Here I must add a qualifier. I am not suggesting our election security is up for question. This is one area Ardern has not attempted to transform – yet. She is definitely having a lot of fun tinkering around the edges of our democracy with Labour’s Maori ward introduction, despite almost 100% of the public being opposed.
This was apparently, according to Mahuta, an example of ‘the tyranny of the majority’ and the means (democracy) by which Labour gained power in 2020! Her pious hypocrisy (and stupidity) knows no bounds.
The one thing a growing percentage of the New Zealand public cling to for grim death is the light at the end of the tunnel: our 2023 election when the people can have their say, ONCE! and change the government.
Although New Zealand had a red landslide in 2020, I never once questioned it, mainly because I trust the system. I also know people are largely stupid and, unlike me, Simon Bridges and a few others fell for Ardern’s dishonest interpretation of the government’s Covid recovery. They forgot everything else was a failure as well.
Also in direct contrast to that, we have the move to the right seen in the local body elections brought about by opposition to the Maori power grab ‘Three Waters’, and general dissatisfaction with the government. A delicious example of true democracy at work is that two candidates endorsed by the PM lost.
It also proved that revenge is a dish best served cold. More to come.
Back to the US. Other factors also contribute to the ‘conversation’ regarding the come-from-behind late Democrat victories in ‘mail-in voting’ Democrat states.
The Supreme Court abortion decision affected all women and who knows how many Republican women disagreed.
Also, Democrats are moving to different states by the thousands, due to the disintegration of law and order and other unpopular liberal decisions in Democrat run states. They may move to a Republican state but continue to vote Democrat, turning the state blue over time, which is a disaster for Republicans wanting to regain power.
However, for some like David Maddox from The Daily Express, this election seems to be a disturbing case of ‘same old same old’. The outcome is significant enough for him to defy the left-wing MSM’s stringent ‘conspiracy theory’ line on this topic and compare the outcome to the UK’s mail voting election practices.
Trump’s election-denying (rightly or wrongly) has come back to bite him as the Republicans turn on themselves and begin the blame game.
Ron DeSantis is an attractive option for the next Republican presidential candidate, but does he have Trump’s force to fight the dangerous foe, the Democrats who live by the mantra, ‘the rules are there are no rules’?
