The PM waves her arms around asking for them to show ‘a bit of social conscience’ and the opposition sits on their hands with zero ideas about what is going on. It’s no surprise that bank charges and profits are higher here than they are in Australia. Canberra is watching them but Wellington is not.
There have been multiple inquiries into these bank charges in Australia but not one here in NZ, Why not?
Companies such as Stuff and NZME (publisher of the Herald) can make their own rules, as long as they’re willing to risk consequences such as loss of trust and declining readership. RNZ (and TVNZ, but let’s not go there) has no such latitude.
Those who dare challenge elite opinion cartels will always pay the price. But they can live and die with a clean conscience. What matters more?
