The highly anticipated Netflix Original movie about Sherlock Holmes’s teen sister was met with widespread praise from critics.

NPR says, “The world of this film is a pleasure to disappear into, and in Enola, Brown has found a role to which she seems perfectly – even uncannily – matched.”

New York Times writes, “On the surface, “Enola Holmes” is about a young woman in search of herself, but the film’s value comes from a deeper investigation of power, familial bonds and the risks of changing a world determined to stay the same.”

And USA Today says, “The game is pleasantly afoot yet again, with a new super-sleuth worthy of her forebears.”

In the witty, sure-footed adventure/mystery/crime caper, Enola (that’s “Alone” backwards, in case you didn’t realise) is the world-famous detective’s younger sister, who seeks her brothers’ help in locating their mother, who has vanished.

When she doesn’t get the answers she hoped for from Sherlock and Mycroft, Enola decides to fulfil her nominative determinist destiny, and go it alone. The task will require her to become something she never imagined – a lady.

There’s a feminist message to this fun, family-friendly movie, plus some of the most appealing stars on screen today – British and otherwise. Millie Bobby Brown plays Enola, Henry Cavill is Sherlock, Sam Claflin is Mycroft and Helena Bonham Carter is their enigmatic, energetic mother.
