In his Monday Insight column, Chris Trotter rubbished the idea that Marxists are a significant force in the West. How, then, to explain the Marxist-led mobs who have staged over 500 violent riots across America in just the last 90 days?
The riots – sorry, peaceful protests – have marched under the twin banners of BLM and Antifa. Antifa are openly communist; BLM have more-or-less discarded the fig-leaf of “racial justice” to admit what they really are: a racist Marxist movement.
What’s becoming more ominous and disturbing are their deep ties to the world’s largest remaining communist power.
Go to the website for the Black Futures Lab, a venture of Black Lives Matter founder Alicia Garza, and click on the “Donate” button. It will ask you to send your money to an obscure organization, the Chinese Progressive Association, explaining that “Black Futures Lab is a fiscally sponsored project of the Chinese Progressive Association.”
The CPA was founded in San Francisco in the early 70s – the previous high-tide of communist violence in the US – as an avowed Marxist organisation aligned with and promoting the People’s Republic of China.
To this day, CPA Boston continues to be a partner of the PRC in the United States. Three years ago, the Boston chapter teamed up with China’s Consulate General in New York to offer Chinese nationals the opportunity to renew their passports, getting praise from China’s official mouthpiece, China Daily.
Last year, CPA Boston sponsored the raising of the PRC’s flag for the first time ever over Boston’s City Hall.
CPA is part of a spiderweb of front movements and splinter groups. These networks serve a number of functions. Firstly, they amplify the Marxist’s reach, making a small number of well-organised agitators look like a much larger movement. This is the same tactic used online by groups like Sleeping Giants: by creating dozens, if not hundreds of sock-puppet accounts, a tiny clique hoodwink advertisers into believing that they’re a massive groundswell. If anyone doubts the impact that a small group of fanatical ideologues can have, just remember that the Bolsheviks were a fringe minority in 1917.
Secondly, the myriad of front groups helps shield the movement, especially its fundraising, from scrutiny. Scattering dozens or hundreds of hundred-thousand-dollar donations is a lot less conspicuous than dumping a few hundred million on the one lot of Marxists
Garza sits atop a worldwide revolutionary empire, starting with the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation she founded, which now has 15 chapters in the U.S. and several more all over Canada, Australia, and Europe. As Foreign Affairs wrote in its September/October issue, “Today, BLM has a global network of dozens of chapters. This number will likely grow exponentially in the coming years.”
Garza is also behind the Movement for Black Lives, with its 50 domestic organizations.
Whilst hiding behind a shield of racial – or, more accurately, racist – rhetoric, these networked groups push an agenda that is bluntly Marxist. BLM’s “What We Believe” page (at least, until its sudden disappearance this week): “We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement”. Dismantling the family is a core component of Marxism, which communists from the Soviet Union to Romania assiduously put into practice.
Movement for Black Lives is unabashedly anti-capitalist, saying on its website, “We are anti-capitalist”[…]
So is Garza, and she means to use her international platform to end world capitalism. In 2015, she told an important gathering of global Marxists, “It’s not possible for a world to emerge where black lives matter if it’s under capitalism, and it’s not possible to abolish capitalism without a struggle against national oppression.”
There, she portrayed BLM as an offshoot of the Black Liberation Movement, the Marxist pan-Africanist Movement. “BLM, BLM,” she said coyly.
Understood in the context of their Marxist roots and allegiances to the Chinese Communist Party, the past months of rioting stand clear as not spontaneous protests, but a long-planned, orchestrated uprising by communist agitators. Witnesses to many of the riots have described their meticulous organisation. The self-induced drug death of George Floyd was not a catalyst, it was an excuse.
The BLM organizations have been the nerve center of this year’s protests: “They have been laying the groundwork for years, carefully cultivating a network of groups that could organize protests when the moment came and amplify the message through social media.”
Communist China has put its vast propaganda apparatus to work in support of the mayhem that has wreaked havoc in American cities this year. China is, after all, a rival of the United States, and would see weakening of U.S. society and the country in general as advantageous.
Don’t hold your breath waiting for the legacy media to notice, though. They’re too busy chasing imaginary Russian saboteurs to bother with the Marxists they just know don’t exist.
