The NZ Herald had an article yesterday outlining how Jacinda Ardern’s decision to bail out early, despite promising that she’d stay full term, went down. Basically, the poor dear had had a tough year. Boo hoo!
Ardern said when she made her announcement that there was no specific time or event that triggered her decision. Those around her say that was true.
None of those who were in the loop can pinpoint when it moved from an occasional muttering at the end of a hard day to something more serious. Even Ardern cannot say when it took root in earnest.
2022 was supposed to be better for Ardern. The lockdowns were over, the country was vaccinated, the mandates that had caused her so much grief had been dropped.
The borders were re-opening. It was hoped things would feel normal again as soon as possible.
But one of those close to her said 2022 had been particularly bruising.
The occupation at Parliament started it on a bad note that lingered. “That was so horrific in so many ways,” one senior minister said.
“The adrenalin of 2020 and 2021 had dropped away a bit. It was a real grind.”
The economy was turning to custard and the public mood with it.

So, things got a bit hard, and the ultimate narcissist didn’t like the pushback and so she bailed. Like all narcissists, they love the adulation but hate the brickbats.
But what was she expecting after she destroyed people’s lives, careers, businesses and their futures by implementing draconian and nasty vaccine mandates that segregated society on the basis of whether or not they took a medicine. That was against the Bill of Rights but by then she was used to trampling all over our rights and her jackboots were well-worn and eminently comfortable.
She actually smirked and laughed as she rolled out two classes of citizens.
When people, many of whom would actually have voted for her, rebelled and peacefully assembled at parliament she refused to listen to them. Instead, she sent in her jackbooted thugs to further trample the rights of citizens who were gathered peacefully as is their right.
The violence only began when the Police brought violence to the streets of Wellington.
Why was she surprised by this?
She lied about the safety and efficacy of vaccines. She declared that you wouldn’t get sick and you wouldn’t die.
Now we have more deaths and more sickness per head of population post-vaccination than Great Britain, the United States, all of Europe and many other countries.
Her Covid claims are demonstrably, undeniably and categorically all lies and obfuscation.
She created division in our society and she smirked and laughed about it. The economy went down the toilet because of her policies not in spite of them. She has presided over a legacy of fear, failure and futility. Not a single thing they have promised has even come close to delivery.
The only thing she has delivered is an orchestrated litany of lies and failure. Where are the 100,000 Kiwibuild homes? Where is even a single millimetre of track on the trolley cars to the Airport? Where are the billion trees (apart from out to sea off the coast of Gisborne, Wairoa and the Hawkes Bay? Where was her climate change moment? What about child poverty? Crime rates have doubled or tripled or even more. People in Auckland live in fear of ram raids and random violence. She beggared the nation, then bolted. That $60 billion in the Covid Recovery fund would have gone a long way to restoring the destroyed economy of the east coast of the North Island. Instead, it funded carparks and rebuilds of marae, liberal elite arts wankers and numerous other follies. Now we will have to borrow even more for the recovery. The beggaring will continue at pace.
Jacinda Ardern promised much and delivered nothing but empty slogans. When the going got tough, she ran – like the gutless coward she is.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
