Auckland butcher Richard Hogg says he’s offering click-and-collect services to customers because he is fed up with the “unfair rules and lack of change since last lockdown” and wants to serve his Remuera community.
Under alert level 4, butchers can operate contactless delivery services, but not click-and-collect.
[…] Hogg knows it is illegal to have customers come to the butchery but said he was making a stand.
A fellow butcher had three visits from police officers in one day, so gave up and shut shop, Hogg said.
“I know that this publicity may mean I am shut down, but I believe my community deserves and needs this service,” Hogg said.
Hogg said the hygiene screen was up, no one could enter the shop and all level 4 hygiene procedures were operating. His customers order online and come and collect. He also does some deliveries.
He has lost all his wholesale meat customers and his income has halved. Auckland is not scheduled to emerge from level 4 until September 14 at the earliest.
