China has rolled out all-terrain, AI-powered spherical robots capable of detecting, chasing, and apprehending criminals.

The RT-G “robo-cops,” developed by Logon Technology, are designed to assist—and eventually replace—human officers in dangerous environments, showcasing what the company calls a “technological breakthrough.”

Footage shows these 125 kg spheres patrolling streets alongside human officers, using AI to detect disturbances or known criminals through facial recognition.

The robots are equipped with non-lethal police gear, including net-launching cannons, tear gas sprayers, and sound wave dispersal devices. Despite their modest speed of 35 kph, they are able to withstand up to four tonnes of impact damage.

The RT-G spheres can operate on land and water, giving them a versatile edge in urban and rural settings. A demonstration video shows the robo-cops chasing suspects, incapacitating them, and deploying the built-in net gun.

This debut follows China’s increasing use of robotics in law enforcement, including robo-dogs with advanced terrain capabilities and humanoid robots.

Some are concerned about the dystopian implications of AI’s ability to monitor and analyse behaviour.
