Tory MP Lee Rowley sparked laughter in the Chamber as he made a joke about Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and Venezuela, during a Commons debate after the Queen’s speech. Lee Rowley took a dig at Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn over Venezuela. The MP for North East Derbyshire said: “I stand here this afternoon firstly to right a historic and terrible injustice. That no member from my great county of Derbyshire has moved the Loyal Address for over 100 years. Mr Rowley then joked: “The subject which Colonel Gretton turned to first in his speech was not education or health or welfare or taxes, nor even his constituency. “It is a subject which continued to be returned to time and time again in this place, Venezuela.” MPs roared with laughter as he continued: “The Colonel was keen to explain that the recent policy successes in South America had been achieved without the destruction of personal property. Mr Corbyn has been reluctant to criticise Maduro’s regime with as much animation as the current British government. Mr Corbyn’s leniency for the autocratic, socialist regime in Caracas presents a problem for Britain on the international stage should Labour win the next election.
