  • Everyone must now stay home, except those providing essential services.
  • Only make physical contact with those that you live with.

Government COVID-19 Response Briefing

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will update the country on the fight against coronavirus alongside Health Director General Ashley Bloomfield at 1pm.

Bloomfield will release the number of new cases discovered, recoveries, and any new deaths.

Ministry of Health Update:

  • 6 new cases
  • One more death, a woman in her 80s associated with the Rosewood cluster. Associated with the Burwood cluster.
  • 1451 total number
  • Labs processed a record number of tests: 5289
  • We have stock for another 87,000 tests
  • DHBs making efforts to reach Maori, using Maori health providers and mobile testing.
  • There’s a new s70 notice under the health act. These are the notices that trigger the special powers currently being used.

Prime Minister Update

  • The new strict quarantine rules remain in force.
  • 2003 people in Government controlled facilities
  • 97 in quarantine
  • The Auckland City Rail Link will be back post lockdown – 200 workers will resume construction work
  • Looking at ways we can get infrastructure projects back underway safely.
  • NZTA is working on ways of making infrastructure building safer under Covid-19
  • No idea why Ardern needed to be here today…just politicking
  • Police are saying that some are choosing to flout the rules l 4128 breaches, and roughly 400 prosecutions

Yesterday’s details:

  • 5 new cases, 2 new confirmed cases and 3 new probable cases.
  • Total is 1445
  • Another death, woman in 70s, was resident of St Margarets Rest Home
  • 1006 recovered
  • 12 in hospital, 3 in ICU. None critical.
  • 16 significant clusters
  • 89,503 tests have now been run. More than 2000 tests were run yesterday.

Notes:

  1. A probable case is one without a positive laboratory result, but which is treated like a confirmed case based on its exposure history and clinical symptoms. For more details please refer to Case definition of COVID-19 infection.
  2. Recovered cases are people who had the virus, are at least 10 days since onset and have not exhibited symptoms for 48 hours, and have been cleared by the health professional responsible for their monitoring.
  3. The number of confirmed and probable cases reported in the last 24 hours includes cases which were entered on an earlier date as ‘under investigation’ or ‘suspected’ whose status has now been changed to confirmed or probable.
