As reports are getting evermore difficult, it is a miscellany of incidents today.
Today, Kyawt Kay Khine, a 17-year-old girl studying at BESH (3) Bahan was abducted by the Military from Thurein Aluminum, BoSeinHman Street. She is just one of many as the military has started a campaign of arresting and detaining young people, to put pressure on their families and to instil terror in the civilian population. There have been reports of assault, torture and rape as the military start a decline into near anarchy in parts of the country.
Today’s cumulative casualty list: –
- 738 killed by this junta
- 3300 currently detained/sentenced
- 1020 issued arrest warrants.
Demonstrators burnt joss sticks in remembrance of General Aung San, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s father, the founder of modern Burma who was assassinated in 1948.
This is a problem for the military as he is revered by everyone, protesters and military alike.
Soldiers have taken to looting at random, not even discretely, but brazenly.
Daw Hla Lun Swe was abducted in broad daylight from South Okkala, Yangon.
Just to show that the violence hasn’t stopped, in Yinmabin, Sagaing Region 21 truckloads of Tatmadaw terrorised the locals from Thit Yar Pin and Ka Paing Thee Gone villages. At least 10 were shot dead and dozens injured as the Tatmadaw used heavy weapons.
In a significant move the Military took control of the premises of Puma energy. Puma closed its operations in February and is the subsidiary of a Singapore based global commodities trader. It is the only importer of jet fuel, Avgas and other specialist fuels and lubricants into Myanmar. It looks as though the military are trying to secure supplies. As I said yesterday, they aren’t winning, but they aren’t losing, and each day that passes Myanmar descends further into chaos.
