Our government claims to care about minorities and their rights yet it is actively encouraging businesses to discriminate against the minority of people who are not vaccinated, including those who have had Covid and have no need to get vaccinated because they already have superior natural immunity.
We recently ran a series of articles by a writer who lives in Lithuania. In his country, if you are not vaccinated:
- You may not enter any shopping mall. You may not enter large stores, including supermarkets
- For eating and drinking, you cannot visit any restaurant, cafe, or bar. This includes all indoor areas and most outdoor areas.
People reading the series may have thought that while people are losing their jobs for not being vaccinated here in New Zealand at the very least they will still have access to the basics of life such as buying food from supermarkets.
Unfortunately, even that basic freedom may now be under threat as food giant Foodstuffs is currently discussing discriminating against unvaccinated “visitors.”
There are two possible interpretations of “visitors”
1. Customers
I suspect this is why New World have suddenly introduced online ordering and delivery to your car. The thing is, if you’re going to exclude me from your store then I’ll go the next step and exclude myself from your business.

2. Non-employees such as merchandisers
I’m not saying it won’t happen because we know how good our PM is at keeping promises, but that letter doesn’t mention customers. Visitors most likely refers to reps and contractors who come in to do a particular task, like merchandising. A lot of brands have their own reps that go from supermarket to supermarket to make sure their product is displayed correctly and well stocked.
