The media, falling over themselves in their excitement at the story of an indefensible act by a virtually unknown MP, have once again failed their profession. Journalists need to wake up to the fact that when they introduce their personal views into a story to embellish the facts, the public, most of whom are more intelligent than they are, can see what the game is.
Take the current story involving Andrew Falloon. Perhaps the first question should have been who is Andrew Falloon? Hardly anyone outside of his electorate would know he was a National Party MP. They certainly wouldn’t have been able to name his electorate. The media was only interested in Falloon to the extent that he was the vehicle that provided them with the means to have a go at Judith.
No doubt the television media were smarting from their weekend interviews with Judith where they failed miserably to land any hits against her. So the Falloon story was like manna from heaven. They were in boots and all. By Monday the Falloon story had been quickly turned into the story of the National Party. Sanctimonious Campbell on Breakfast went back years highlighting as many National MPs’ indiscretions as he could dig up. He must have been up early. Perhaps he couldn’t sleep with excitement.
On the AM show, toxic Tova was determined to get her own back for being done over by Judith on The Nation. With a face resembling Dracula and bulging eyes she announced that National was a party in complete disarray. To stand there and make such a nonsensical statement is at best laughable and at worst a blatant lie. This was simply schoolgirl petulance to get back at Judith, who had verbally disassembled her two days earlier. Her colleague on the other channel isn’t much better. Both show personal bias. Mutch-McKay has personal reasons for doing so.
These two are an insult to other women in highly paid jobs who no doubt excel and go about their business in a professional manner. Journalists who use the media as a political platform to express their own views need to look elsewhere for employment. There was a case in the BBC recently where one of their top journalists, Emily Maitlis — again a woman you’ll note — had a rant about Boris Johnson and was severely reprimanded. The BBC has become so bad with its left wing bias, there are now calls to defund it.
There is absolutely no question that what Falloon did was inexcusable but he also has, and is getting treatment for, mental health issues. The media are painting this as simply an excuse for his behaviour. The predictable nastiness of the left. The point is that to use a man, who obviously has mental heath issues, to take aim at the leader of a party you don’t like falls far short of what should be expected of a professional journalist. If you choose to conduct an interview in a combative rather than a searching manner and you fail, that is entirely your fault. Either change your interviewing style or take it on the chin.
As I said in an article a few days ago, the media pack have met someone in Judith Collins who they are not going to get anywhere with. They are used to politicians who, like the PM, obfuscate or say whatever suits them at the time. The truth is just an annoying piece of minutiae. Now they have to deal with a new phenomenon, a woman who is more intelligent, quick-witted and sure-footed than they are. Just ask Jack Tame, who was practically disembowelled on Q+A. The ground has shifted and for them it’s shaky. They’re all of a sudden having to deal with the equivalent of a hot lava flow coming towards them. Judith is of a different makeup to most politicians and it’s only too obvious they can’t handle her.
The media were having a field day on Friday saying Judith not speaking to the matter was not a good look. They really are clueless, running around in their own little bubble. Judith was not going to speak until she had spoken with Falloon and the young lady who was the victim and who never intended it to be made public. The media mob had no regard for her. To them, it was all about Judith. When Judith had all the facts she fronted calmly and confidently and told them what she knew. There was no sweeping it under the carpet as a certain other person is known for.
The venom from the snakes on the left is only going to get worse as Judith proceeds to systematically dismantle them. In the process their unprofessionalism will be increasingly on show for all to see. It looks like it’s time to stock up on the popcorn!
