I have just finished a data process on the leavers of every high school in NZ from 2021.
The NZ psyche is that if you are from a poor home you are screwed. Not even close.
For upper-level achievement, NZ’s best decile one school is McAuley High School in Otahuhu. Metrics have their leavers ahead of 17 decile nine schools and nine decile 10 schools.
The decile 10 schools who are in their dust are three of the most expensive (at least $50m establishment) new schools with great new learning theories and acclaimed leaders: Hobsonville Point Senior High, Albany Senior High School and, worst of all, Rototuna Senior High, near Hamilton.
The best thing any education interested person (eg a parent) can do in NZ is seek out who is performing well and work out why. I can help them with the data.
