Emails released by the US Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee show Dr Anthony Fauci instructed colleagues to delete official correspondence at the height of the COVID pandemic.

Fauci is the former chief medical adviser to the White House and former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

In June 2024, Fauci testified to the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic that he never deleted official records, obstructed Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, or instructed staff to remove communications about the origins of COVID and the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Yet, in one email, dated 2 February 2020, Fauci told then–NIH Director Dr Francis Collins: “Please delete this e-mail after you read it.” Another message, dated 20 July 2020, shows Fauci instructing an NIH employee to do the same.

Senator Rand Paul has ordered Dr Fauci to produce all records from 2018–2023, including his contacts, emails on COVID and related research, communications with key scientists and officials, call logs, and encrypted messages.

The Senate committee has also set dates in October, November, and December for Fauci to appear at public hearings. Paul has indicated subpoenas may be issued if Fauci refuses.

Fauci, who was granted a pre-emptive pardon by President Joe Biden in 2023, has previously stated under oath: “I have never lied before Congress.”
